Chapter 281: The Heart of the Forest
Chapter 281
Even though Daniel had no idea why he was being berated, he genuinely believed he made an impeccable decision.
Isn't the problem not wanting to go to war? Killing the decision-making father should do the trick, right?
But Chloe scolded him as a fool, which was beyond his comprehension.
Naturally, Chloe wouldn't take action according to Daniel's thoughts. Although her relationship with Xavier hadn't been particularly good lately, it was merely temporary.
They wouldn't have a falling out forever as a father-daughter duo.
Thinking about it, Chloe experienced another headache.

Damn, Xavier was so stubborn.
For a tribe's leader, he still acted so obstinate; was he crazy?
In the end, Chloe took her people back to the tent prepared for them to rest.
After setting up the sleeping bags, she sat on a chair next to her in a daze for a while before she remembered something,
"Right, where's Katherine?"
Upon hearing this, Qin Huaibei also lifted his head: "She went to the Forest of Life and hasn't returned yet."
"What is she doing in the Forest of Life?" Chloe asked.
"Who knows, seems like she went to get something."
She's an adult; she wouldn’t run into some mishap, would she?
Chloe got up from the sleeping bag: "I'm going out for a bit."
"To find Katherine?"
Chloe nodded her head, didn’t speak, and went straight out.
It was a pity that her sincere intentions were blocked by the guards of the Elf Race.
"Apologies, young lady. The Forest of Life is a sacred place for the Elf Race, and no outsiders are allowed."
Chloe patiently explained: “I’m not going to do anything, just looking for someone.”
"You know Katherine, don’t you? She went in earlier and hasn’t come back for a long time, I’m a bit worried.”
The Elf Race guards looked at each other but ultimately shook their heads:
"Sorry, we can’t allow it."
After that, they started to comfort Chloe: “Miss Katherine is the Holy Maiden chosen by the Forest of Life. She is under the protection of the Forest of Life and won’t be in danger."
There could be danger anywhere for the Elf Race, except in the Forest of Life.
Unable to convince the two guards, Chloe had no choice but to sit on the edge of the Forest of Life.
She found a small stool from somewhere, and when she sat on it, she looked like a widowed old lady.
Chloe didn’t do anything else, just sitting there and having a staring contest with the two Elf Race guards, eyeing each other to see who will be the first to look away.
As time passed, the two Elf Race guards felt itchy all over their bodies, as though they were being stared through by Chloe.
It turned out that Chloe was always active, she tried to get the two guards to talk, but the Elf Race guards were surprisingly resolute.
Chloe guessed that even if she started performing some bizarre dance in front of them, they wouldn’t utter a single word.
Boring.
Until sunset, Chloe was about to lose patience. Just when she was considering knocking out these two guards, hiding them away, and going to find Katherine herself, a silver-white figure appeared in her field of vision.
Immediately, Chloe stood up from the stool, waving her hands excitedly:
"Over here, look here!"
Hearing the sound, Katherine looked up, with a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes.
"Have you been waiting for me here all along?"
Chloe agreed and then took Katherine to do a thorough inspection. After confirming that there were no injuries on her body, she heaved a sigh of relief:
"What on earth did you go in there for? I was on the verge of knocking out the guards to get in there."
As soon as her comment ended, the two elf race guards seemed shocked and backed off a couple of steps.
Chloe herself didn't even glance at them but touched Katherine's cheek affectionately:
"You're pale as a ghost after just one round in there."
Katherine managed to give a tight-lipped smile: "I'm fine."
She cast a glance at the two elf race guards standing behind her, quickly retracted her gaze, took hold of Chloe’s hand, and whispered, “Come with me.”
With that, she led Chloe back to the tent.
Once she checked and made sure nobody else was around, Katherine finally relaxed.
At that moment, Daniel and the others came over: "You’re back? Why all the sneaky movements? You did not do anything guilty, did you?"
The corners of Katherine's lips tightened, obviously nervous.
Seeing this, Daniel paused and murmured: “Could it really be what I'm thinking?”
Katherine put her index finger to her lips as a sign for them to keep quiet, then pulled out an object from her pocket.
It was a necklace of a very simple design.
A dried twig was tied to the silver chain.
It looked like a small branch that had been broken off, hollow in the middle, uneven on the exterior, with many fine granules.
In the hollow of the twig, however, there was a small light green bud suspended.
The color was extremely vivid and fresh, tiny in size, spinning slowly while suspended in the middle of the twig.
Very beautiful.
One could feel a force that was fresh and pure when getting close, as though it could cleanse the dirt from one's heart.
Chloe involuntarily asked, “What’s this?”
Speaking in a low voice, Katherine said, "Heart of the Forest."
She then carefully handed it to Chloe, “It's for you.”
An immediate wave of warmth spread through Chloe’s palm, eliminating any unnoticed chill within her.
Chloe only felt a surge of warmth throughout her body, like she was about to sweat out all impurities.
A gut feeling told her that this was no ordinary item:
"What does the Heart of the Forest do? Where did you get it?"
Katherine didn’t give any specifics, evasive, she simply said it was a good thing.
Seeing Chloe was about to interrogate further, Katherine quickly covered Chloe’s mouth, saying,
"Don’t ask. Just wear it. It'll be good for you.”
She paused, "Even if we can't find the Viper Group, this can shield you from misfortune, nourish your body, for a long, long time......”
As she continued speaking, Katherine’s voice became even softer.
She took the necklace and gestured for Chloe to bow her head.
Chloe obediently did so.
Katherine’s cold hand on Chloe’s neck made her shudder.
Following that, there was a sharp “click”.
That was the sound of the lock snapping together.
Once the necklace was fully fastened, Chloe felt utterly refreshed and relaxed.
Carefully, Katherine asked her, "How do you feel now?"
After some thought, Chloe responded earnestly, "I feel so happy and excited, I want to dance the waltz with ten dogs."
Everyone was left speechless.
Katherine nodded in relief, "That's good, it should be taking effect."
As she spoke, she extended her index finger and drew a circle in the air; a faint green light emerged from the tip of her finger, firmly enclosing the Heart of the Forest pendant.
And then, the pendant that was just fastened disappeared.
Daniel was taken aback, "What happened?"
Chloe felt around for a moment, then reassured him, "Don't worry, it's not lost."
