Immediately, silence fell in the lab. Jin Shengping looked at Lu Jia’er who was already ready to put forth more questions already. “Where are Ian and Su Han? What are you going to do with them?”

“Su Han is well. Don’t worry about her. As for Ian, no need for concern!” Jin Shengping replied.

“I may not have to worry about Su Han. But Ian has betrayed you. What will become of him?” Lu Jia’er probed.

“In the world of adults, you must shoulder the weight of your responsibilities or pay the price accordingly for any actions taken.” Jin Shengping said.

“Didn’t you say that because of him, my consciousness began to awaken and that was beneficial?” Lu Jia’er refuted him.

“I would not hold him accountable on that front. However, we are not going to let him off the hook regarding him kidnapping Su Han which led to the death of Jason!” Jin Shengping was determined.

“He was the one that staged Su Han’s kidnapping?” Lu Jia’er found this hard to believe.

“Who else could it be?” Jin Shengping answered with a question.

“I didn’t think Ian would want to harm Su Han. Jason’s death should have been an accident!” Lu Jia’er tried to justify Ian’s actions.

“Jia’er, look at you. At this very moment, you are just like a human being and have abandoned yourself to your emotions!” Jin Shengping condemned her. “Do you know why he kidnapped Su Han? Are you convinced that he would not harm Su Han?”

Lu Jia’er stared at Jin Shengping. “If you know the truth and the facts, please enlighten me.”

Jin Shengping’s expressions were hard to read. He heaved a sigh. “Ian planned to target Su Han, injure her so that we would recall her. He wanted to take advantage of the opportunity that would create to prove an assumption he had.”

“In other words, he has always been curious about the motive of your experiments.” Lu Jia’er said.

“Yes. Ian is a brilliant kid and I like him very much. It is a pity that he allows emotion to affect his judgment.” Jin Shengping said.

“Ian was not swayed by emotions. He is naturally kind-hearted!” Lu Jia’er argued.

Jin Shengping shot a glance with a meaningful expression at Lu Jia’er. “You can put it that way. He is kind-hearted indeed. However, he did not honor the spirit of contract!”

“What kind of contract did Ian forge with you?” Asked Lu Jia’er. “I assume it must have something to do with me, right?”

Jin Shengping stared attentively at Lu Jia’er. “Ian is a genius. At the same time, he is stupidly romantic! The first time I heard about Ian was from a fellow schoolmate from university. After that, he would mention Ian often. Later on, Ian and I met and we exchanged ideas. I realized that Ian was an exceptional talent. We felt like old friends even at the first meeting despite our age differences. He would communicate with me privately and we were inspired by each other to a great extent. Then one day, he came to me and begged me to help save you. At first, I refused. However, he was pretty adamant. He spent half an hour trying to persuade me and eventually, I said yes. After the experiment, you lived up to our expectations because your will and vitality were exceptional. You represented a breakthrough at our research center. Unfortunately, you weren’t delivered to the lab on time so you were on the verge of being brain dead. Given the situation, we decided to erase your memory. When Ian found out, he agreed because he had no other choice. So, you were given a whole new identity, new memory, and a new life. You developed rapidly and you brought us so many pleasant surprises. Ian was there to witness all of this. He seemed to be happy and at the same time, sad over the fact that you couldn’t remember him at all. According to our agreement, he could not contact you in private without our consent. Nevertheless, after he saw that you were dating Jin Xiangdong, he broke our agreement and that jeopardized all of our plans.”

Lu Jia’er’s eyes grew misty after she heard this. “I owe him too much.”

“He said he was more than willing to do all this!” Jin Shengping stated.

Lu Jia’er looked at him sadly. “Can you let me see him?”

Jin Shengping shook his head and declined her request. “No!”

“Mr. Jin, I am begging you!” Lu Jia’er pleaded.

“There is no use of begging me. He must pay for his actions and be sanctioned according to the law!” Jin Shengping stressed.

Lu Jia’er was filled with mixed feelings because of his remark. “Speaking of legal sanctions, what about you? Is your research even legal? Do you have a clear conscience? How can you not be afraid of the law?”

Lu Jia’er threw out several questions in a row. “Jia’er, you should know that research like this cannot be done privately based on your knowledge,” he succinctly pointed out.

Lu Jia’er snorted. “So you are saying you are protected by some strong connections and force!”

“I don’t deny it!” Jin Shengping said.

“Will Ian go to prison?” Lu Jia’er asked.

“To be determined!” Said Jin Shengping.

Lu Jia’er’s mind was weighed down with guilt. “Did he kidnap Su Han to find your secrets with the intentions of making your experiment public?”

“Too bad his plan failed! I can only say that he was overly-confident or another way to look at it would be, curiosity killed the cat.” Jin Shengping stated.

Lu Jia’er disagreed. “That was because he still has a humane side to him. He is still kind-hearted.” She said calmly.

Jin Shengping cast a glance at her. “We are all kind-hearted in our own ways. Jia’er, you may be resistant but do not deny the fact that you have embarked on a new life because of us. The flower of your life is blossoming more vibrantly than ever before and you can perform more tasks than ever before. You have become a psychologist. Wasn’t that your wish?”

After he finished the speech, Lu Jia’er looked into his eyes. Truth be told, if she could turn back time, would she choose to face death directly or would she hope she could live like this?

At that moment, Lu Jia’er’s mind was a complete mess. She could not give a confident answer.

Again, the lab fell into silence. Jin Shengping looked at her and said to the staff, “Untie her!”

Lu Jia’er was surprised. “Aren’t you afraid that I would attack you?”

Jin Shengping laughed. “Yes. But I suppose you don’t like this treatment.”

She had to admit that Jin Shengping could understand her. He was like a father that had raised her, knowing her forbidden lamella and how to soothe her.

Soon, the staff freed her from the ties. Lu Jia’er loosened her fingers since her hands had been clenched in a fist. She slowly stepped down and came to Jin Shengping. “Thank you!” She said.

Jin Shengping gave her a kind look. “Everything you have experienced is a way for you to re-accept this new version of yourself. Jia’er, your existence can bring about unlimited hope and possibilities to all of humankind. Think about it. Someone around you and some patients can be rescued or cured and even have their life restarted thanks to your superpowers. So, please remember this. You are unique and irreplaceable. Your value lies not only in the scientific side of research, but in you yourself as well.”
