Chapter 15 - Police Report

Chapter 15 - Police Report

Back home, Jia Li was the only one around, so she checked the kitchen for the ingredients they had at home, before making a list of what she would be needing.

After making her list, she picked some money from their small living room and left the house with a shop bag in hand. She was going to the market to buy the remaining ingredients she needed to cook with.

When she returned home, her father was still not back yet, so she washed her hands and her face and started to prepare the ingredients for the meal.

Two hours, later, Jia Li was already done cooking and has packaged the food in different food containers. She was now cleaning up the kitchen.

As she put away the last plate she washed, she sighed in relief and damped the beads of sweat on her forehead with her clothing.

Now it was time for a shower. Ten minutes later, Jia Li had a refreshed look. This time around, she wasn't putting on any jacket. She was putting on a round neck polo and jeans, with sandals on her feet.

She combed her hair and packed it in a ponytail before going to the living room to take the food she put away.

The two polythene bags she put the food in, were heavy, so she had to carry each in one hand.

With her shoulder bag secured, she lifted the polythene bags and skipped away.

Since it was evening, the hot sun ?? has already gone in, so Jia Li didn't need to worry about sweating much as she walked into the hospital.

She first checked on her mother and delivered her dinner to her.

"Did you see you, father, at home?." Mrs. Qin asked as she took her dinner, Jia Li passed to her.

"No." Jia Li replied with her attention to the remaining meals.

"Oh! I almost forgot. He said there was an emergency at the construction site, so he had to go back there." Mrs. Qin revealed.

"But it's late, it's almost dark." Jia Li said as she looked through the windows of the hospital.

"Hold on, let me give him a call." Mrs. Qin said as she picked up her phone to call her husband.

After a few rings, Mr. Qin picked up the call. "Chu, did you know I was about having my dinner when you decided to call? Did you do it on purpose?."

"Honey, what are you saying? Jia Li was worried about you. She wanted to know if you are back home already. But since you are about to eat, I know the answer." Mrs. Qin replied.

"Oh! I saw Jia Li on my way back to the house, but the distance was far, so I couldn't call out to her. You should know I was joking with you. Don't you miss me?." Mr. Qin asked with a taunting smile.

"Alright... Alright, good night." Mrs. Qin said as she ended the call with a smile. Then she turned to Jia Li to say something, but she beat her to it.

"I know, he is back home. See you." Jia Li said as she lifted the two polythene bags and walked away.

"Huh! ????." Mrs. Qin exclaimed as she watched her daughter's back disappear from her view, with confusion laced on her face.

When Jia Li got to Grandfather Fu's room door, she was about to put down one of the polythene bags, so she could have a free hand to knock, a hand-stretched forward to open the door for her.

And when she followed the hand to the person's attire, and then face, a polite smile appeared on her face as she greeted the person.

"Good evening, Officer Su."

"Good evening, Miss Jia Li." Officer su replied as he pushed the door open for her.

Jia Li nodded in gratitude before walking into the room with Officer Su behind her.

Inside the room, Jia Li greeted the old man cheerfully, and he replied to her before nodding to the Fu brothers in greeting.

Seeing that she was carrying so many things, YingPei offered to help her.

"Thank you." Jia Li said to him in gratitude.

"No troubles," YingPei replied as he kept the polythene bag on the table on one side of the room.

Officer Su greeted Grandfather Fu with a bow, as earlier instructed by the Old man before he nodded in greetings to the Fu brothers.

Jia Li knew Officer Su came for a purpose, so she couldn't serve the food yet. So she sat close to the table where the food was kept.

Just when Officer Su finished his formal greetings, another knock came on the door. And the people that walked in were police officers.

Now there were three police officers in the small private hospital room, and Grandfather Fu was not happy about it.

"To what do I owe this unpleasant visit?." Grandfather Fu asked in a displeased tone.

The police Officers would be fools if they couldn't tell the Old man was not happy with their visit.

The one who seemed to be their leader took a step forward to explain the purpose of their visit.

Officer Su's job was to bring his Boss over here since he was familiar with Grandfather Fu.

It turns out the police Officers were here to report their findings of the accident Grandfather Fu was involved in.

The perpetrator was on a call when he lost control of the truck. Realizing the huge damaged he had caused, which involved a life, he escaped with the truck in panic. And when he got to a more remote area, he abandoned the truck and fled.

Now, the truck driver has been caught. He was arrested at noon, and taken into custody for questioning and further investigations.

"You did your job well by finding the truck driver. The truck driver has to pay for his crimes. If he didn't flee, I would have pardoned him, and not press charges. But he refused to take responsibility and fled. He aggravated his condition, and now his crime has increased because his is attempted murder." Grandfather Fu said in a clear tone.
