Chapter 406: Do You Have A Suitor Already?

Once, he had been having a meal with Liu Jiamu at a restaurant during lunchtime, and the two of them just happened to be sitting next to the window.

There were many girls walking past, including some very beautiful ones, and all of them could not help but turn to glance at Yan Huaian.

Slowly, and he did not even remember why, Liu Jiamu’s topic of conversation turned to ladies. After that, he mentioned that his older sister was buying lipstick like a woman possessed. She was practically a lipstick maniac.

“Me, I like those moist-looking lips, the glossy ones that shine and look so rosy. Just looking at them makes me want to kiss them,” Liu Jiamu had said.

Yan Huaian had considered that before too, but only Yu Zi’s face appeared in his mind. He realized that it did not matter what color she used, because as long as she was the one wearing it, he would like it.

After that, Yan Huaian observed Yu Zi carefully and noticed that she may use heavy or light colors, but she always wore matte. The colors always matched her lips and were never glossy.

Yan Huaian thought that he must prefer this type. The glossy ones would probably feel oily when he kissed them, which would be far from ideal.

Looking at Yu Zi now, he had to resist the urge to lick his lips.

On the other hand, his words had turned Yu Zi’s face red, making her look bright and beautiful. Even she did not understand why her heart was beating so fast.

Yan Huaian’s compliment somehow made her inexplicably happy.

Her head was lowered, so Yan Huaian could not see the twinkle in her eyes, but he could see the sweet color of her face, and that was enough to put him in a very good mood.

Even his breath began to grow hot, his hand subconsciously landing on the back of Yu Zi’s seat.

Some strands of her hair accidentally brushed past his fingers and purlicue, tickling him ever so gently as though tugging directly at his heartstrings.

Yan Huaian’s long fingers resting on the back of her seat curled, yearning to retain the strands of her hair. Ever so carefully, he pinched the strands between his fingers.

Yu Zi had not expected Yan Huaian to actually notice her lipstick color. They said that to straight men, all lipsticks were the same color, right?

Yu Zi stole a glance at Yan Huaian and saw a smile playing on his lips. He seemed to be looking at her lips with considerable interest.

Yu Zi felt her lips burn up, and she instinctively pursed them. When she looked at Yan Huaian again, though, she thought that his gaze looked bold and straightforward, without a single trace of flirtation.

Was she just seeing things earlier?

Or could it be that this was her subconscious desire playing tricks on her mind, suggesting that Yan Huaian was looking at her lips?

Yu Zi did not dare to pursue that line of thought any further. It felt like she was low-key harassing Yan Huaian by randomly fantasizing about him.

Since she felt guilty, she was even more afraid to look at him. Murmuring a low “bye”, she hastily got out of the car.

Just like that, as she moved away, the strands of hair that Yan Huaian had secretly held slipped out of his fingers, leaving nothing more than an itch in his heart.

Yan Huaian did not leave immediately. From inside the car, he watched Yu Zi walk into the building, her head lowered and the lunch box in her hands. She even rapped her head for some reason.

No matter how he looked at it, her little gesture was extremely adorable. She stumbled clumsily, like a silly little girl.

As for Yu Zi, she was currently knocking her head as she mumbled to herself, “What are you thinking, Yu Zi?! You just broke up, so how could your thoughts be wandering so quickly?!”

The idea terrified her. She was not the type to switch partners like changing clothes!

She never had any ideas about Yan Huaian in the past, so why was she thinking these things now?

What Yu Zi did not realize was that she was not single back then, so she only had eyes for Yue Jingchen. In order to make sure that Yue Jingchen did not misunderstand anything, she even purposely avoided being too close with anyone of the opposite gender. That was why she had been maintaining a distance away from Yan Huaian, and outside of work, Yan Huaian could not approach her even if he wanted to.

After breaking up, though, Yu Zi quickly accepted the fact that she was single now. She no longer felt pressured when interacting with others, and she did not need to consider anyone’s gaze or opinions. Naturally, she could now grow closer to Yan Huaian and let her emotions go wild.

In addition to that, there was the way Yan Huaian took the initiative to approach her. He had breakfast and dinner with her, and though they had not been interacting with each other for long, Yan Huaian’s purposeful show of his charms made it no wonder at all that Yu Zi was starting to feel something for him.

However, she had no idea that she had fallen right into Yan Huaian’s trap. As a result, Yu Zi kept despising herself for being so fickle with her affections.

Since she had left home with Yan Huaian, she did not have to squeeze her way into the subway, and she could sleep in for much longer now. She even had a ready-made breakfast, and she saved quite a lot of commuting time too, so she could arrive at the company much earlier.

There were still 15 minutes until the working day began, and Yu Zi was in no hurry to get right to business. Instead, she turned on her computer.

Her phone had automatically connected to the firm’s WiFi. Putting the lunch box onto the table, she opened it and saw that the fruits inside still looked fresh and pretty.

Hence, Yu Zi picked up her phone and took a picture of the box of fruits, applying a filter over it.

She had no other intentions. She simply thought it was pretty, and she was really grateful for Yan Huaian’s considerateness, so she took a picture of it.

That was also why she turned on her Moments and posted the picture with the caption, “I had a great breakfast early this morning, and I even received a delicate box of fruits. It looks so good I can barely bring myself to eat it.”

After she posted that on Moments, she thought it over and realized that she had not posted anything on Weibo for a while now, so she posted it there as well.

Yu Zi’s Weibo account was verified, and she often posted some legal pointers or answered netizens’ questions about legal matters there. Of course, her answers were not as detailed as the consultations the firm provided for a fee, but she would give brief explanations regarding some simpler matters, or to clear the netizens’ doubts.

When it came to cases that were more serious, troublesome, or required some serious thought, she would suggest that the netizens consult a lawyer face to face in real life.

As time passed, her fanbase grew, and she now had 660,000 followers. The way she saw it, that was a pretty lucky number.

As her fanbase grew, the netizens began asking more questions, and she did not answer their questions on Weibo every day either.

Most of the time, she would answer some questions when she was commuting to and fro from work, crowding in the subway.

She was busy with work during office hours and after work, when she was at home, so she had no time for that then.

Soon, she began seeing comments on both Weibo and WeChat.

Her friends on Moments did not know that she had broken up with Yue Jingchen yet. Yu Zi never thought it was necessary to announce such private matters to the world.

That was why some people on her Moments thought that Yue Jingchen was the one who prepared the fruits.

Yue Jingchen was never the type to do something like this, and Yu Zi did not want to see Yan Huaian’s sincere actions interpreted as Yue Jingchen’s either, so she refuted each of them, one by one.

On the other hand, those on Weibo did not know about her private life, so they did not know if she had a boyfriend.

Someone guessed, “Is it from your boyfriend?”

Another said, “You’re so lucky!”

Someone else hazarded a guess, saying, “Looks like someone’s pursuing you.”

However, none of these seemed to be the right answer.

Even so, Yu Zi’s heart beat a little faster.

When she thought of Yan Huaian’s face, she could not help but smile.

It was not time to work yet, so she picked up the little fruit fork and pierced into a small piece of kiwifruit.

After that fiasco when she was getting off from work yesterday, all of her colleagues at the firm now knew that she had broken up with Yue Jingchen.

Due to time constraints, though, they had not had the chance to gossip about it yet.

Still, nobody really thought it was Yu Zi’s fault. Having seen what Yue Jingchen’s mother was like, most of them, especially her female colleagues, asked themselves honestly and concluded that they would never have agreed if they were in her shoes.

The fact that Yu Zi withstood that for six years showed just how deeply she loved him, alright?

Bian Ruhan was scrolling through her phone as she walked into the office, and when she saw Yu Zi, she did not go back to her seat, running straight to Yu Zi.

“Yu Zi, Yu Zi, who gave you this? Do you have a suitor already?” Bian Ruhan asked with a laugh.

Yu Zi shook her head hastily, but Bian Ruhan remembered something suddenly and bent down, inching closer to Yu Zi before whispering, “It wasn’t President Yan, was it?”

She had been there yesterday afternoon too, and she had personally heard Yan Huaian admit in his own words that he had fancied Yu Zi for a long time now.

Yu Zi laughed awkwardly. “Don’t pull my leg, Big Sis Han. President Yan only did that to rescue me yesterday. What else could he do? Let that Madam Pan get away with slandering me, saying I was unfaithful, saying that I had wronged Yue Jingchen? Besides, she was slandering President Yan too, so he had to say something, at least.”

Bian Ruhan was quite surprised to hear what Yan Huaian said yesterday, but she also thought that what Yu Zi was saying made sense. Actually, she had only intended to tease Yu Zi; even she did not really believe that Yan Huaian liked Yu Zi.

That was why she believed Yu Zi as soon as the latter said that.

“But I have to say, you really oughta consider it. President Yan is young and successful, and aside from his other traits and assets, his looks alone make him worth it, even if he was broke. Don’t call me shallow, but I only look for two things in a guy. He has to have either the dough or the looks. If he’s good-looking but broke, I’ll still have eye candy every day to make me happy, so I’d be willing to pay for that.” Bian Ruhan said with a laugh.

Bian Ruhan was one of the lawyers in the firm who could officially run cases on her own, so she earned a good living. That was why she could say that confidently.

Yu Zi really admired Bian Ruhan’s personality. To Yu Zi, Bian Ruhan was honest and straightforward with her feelings, without putting on any pretenses.
