Chapter 418: You Would Never Distract Me By Being Here
“Don’t drink coffee at night, you won’t be able to fall asleep later. Have some Pu Er tea instead. It’s not as potent as caffeine but it can help sharpen you up a little without affecting your sleep. It’s pretty good,” Yan Huaian explained.
He made her a pot of Pu Er tea and poured a cup for Yu Zi to drink while she worked.
After that, he quietly sat aside to read a book. He did not turn on the television in case it disturbed her work.
Yan Huaian did not give any comments professionally nor did he ask her much about the work she was doing. All he did was accompany her in total silence and it made Yu Zi feel comfortable.
She felt like she would never feel tired as long as he was there by her side. His presence did not act as a distraction, instead, it helped her focus on her work.
It was now that she realized how nice it was to have someone accompany her quietly.
He had unknowingly influenced her with his silence and maturity and with the way he conducted himself around her. It helped her calm down and she was able to be at her best in her work.
She had finished prepping her work at around 11 pm.
Yan Huaian looked at the time and reminded her, “You better go to sleep now. You need to be at your best for tomorrow.”
He stayed while Yu Zi compliantly put her work stuff away.
After brushing her teeth and cleaning up, he was still around. This made Yu Zi slightly nervous.
Was he thinking about staying the night there?
Yan Huaian smiled while he explained, “I’ll go home after you go to sleep.”
Yu Zi blushed and quickly went to her room before changing into her sleeping clothes. She found the least transparent shirt she could find as she did not dare put on her usual white t-shirt.
Yan Huaian watched while she got into bed. Yu Zi pulled up the covers over herself as much as possible, revealing only her head. Even her chin was hidden beneath the covers.
“I’m… I’m going to sleep now,” Yu Zi said nervously.
Yan Huaian could not help laughing. He really could not bear to leave her.
Especially when she was lying on the bed.
It would be abnormal if he was able to walk away without a second thought at this time.
“You can leave now,” Yu Zi said but realized her tone felt a little unfriendly.
So, she said much more tenderly, “You should go home… And remember to rest early.”
As he watched this little lady wrapped up tightly in bed like a dumpling, Yan Huaian knew exactly what was going through her head.
He let out a laugh but did not leave. Instead, he walked to the side of the bed.
Yu Zi grabbed onto the covers nervously. The shadow above her head got bigger and wider.
Yan Huaian’s hands were at both sides of her shoulder. He reached forward to give her a kiss on the lips. A good-looking smile appeared on his face. “Good night.”
The light fragrance of tea spread on her lips as he spoke. Yu Zi’s lips trembled. She did not dare to breathe.
“Good night,” she replied quietly.
Yan Huaian was so tempted to pull her into his arms and touch her everywhere the moment he saw how delicate and gentle she looked.
It was such a tribulation to see the woman he was interested in lying in bed right in front of him when he was not allowed to do anything to her.
It did not help that she appeared so defenseless and delicate. Yan Huaian could not tell if he was holding back the urge or that he was feeling helpless about his situation. He suddenly lunged at her, pulling her away from the bed and into his arms. He kissed her viciously and passionately for a long time.
Yu Zi could hardly breathe from the kiss and it was only then that he let her go.
Yan Huaian then moved in at her suddenly again and gave her another ferocious kiss before saying unhappily in a husky voice, “I’m going home now.”
Yu Zi was taken completely by surprise by his passionate attack and it made her too dazed to even give him a reply.
Yan Huaian knew that if he stayed, he would never be able to leave. He unwillingly moved his daze away from her face.
Those lips were swollen from his kissing, but they were deadly attractive to him right then.
But he saw a strange look on Yu Zi’s face’s face.
His gaze followed hers downwards.
Ahem…
Yan Huaian did not even bother to hide it. Rather, he straightened his back and allowed her to see him in full glory. He had to let her know how difficult it was for him to hold back his urge and how much he really wanted her.
Yu Zi did not expect him to be so thick-skinned. She closed her eyes and stopped looking at him.
Yan Huaian took the opportunity to quickly say, “I’m going off now.”
He turned to make his escape. He was worried that he was going to make the situation worse.
Yu Zi did not see him leave as she had her eyes closed.
It was after a while before she reopened them. Yan Huaian was no longer around. She had always thought of Yan Huaian as someone who would be able to keep calm even when acting like a hooligan.
However, how was she supposed to go to sleep tonight after Yan Huaian’s big seduction?
Her mouth was filled with the taste of him. Her lips could still feel his warmth and the fragrance of lemon. The moment she closed her eyes, all she could see was his face and the blush-worthy act of what they did replay in her mind.
Yu Zi grunted and covered herself up completely while lying face down in bed. Her face was buried into her pillow.
…
The next day, Yu Zi went directly to court from her house to meet Song Dashen.
In order to make sure everything went smoothly for her, Yan Huaian woke up earlier than usual.
Yu Zi had no idea what time she went to sleep last night. It was all Yan Huaian’s fault. He was the one that pushed her to go to bed earlier, yet he had to do those things that made it difficult for her to fall asleep.
The weird thing was, she actually managed to wake up early this morning without the help of the alarm on her phone.
She must have been thinking about the case and today was an especially important day for her. That was why she woke up without any help.
Yan Huaian had prepared a cup of hot cocoa for her. He was worried that if she drank too much water, she might feel the need to visit the washroom when she got nervous. Which was why he prepared sandwiches for her breakfast. He made sure it was not salty and added salad as well to make her breakfast refreshing.
Yan Huaian ruffled her hair as he accompanied her to the entrance of the courthouse. “You should go in. I believe in you. You’ll do a great job.”
Yu Zi nodded. “I’ll tell you the results when it’s over.”
“Okay,” Yan Huaian had his own plans but did not share them with her.
He watched as Yu Zi entered the courthouse. Yan Huaian did not leave immediately and sat in his car, waiting patiently.
Yan Huaian stepped out of his car when the court session was just starting. He walked into the courthouse and quietly snuck in for the court session. He sat at the corner of the last row.
He did not want Yu Zi to see him. He was worried it would affect her performance if she saw he was watching. It might distract her or make her nervous.
He sat in the corner and watched as his woman made her case in course. Her questioning silenced the witness and the evidence she handed up made the opposition’s expression sour.
She stood confidently in court and if she was nervous on the inside, it certainly did not show at all.
He could see a shadow of Yu Zi who had first appeared at Yan Hui. The Yu Zi now was much more confident than she was then.
There was a twinkle in Yan Huaian’s eyes. He could hardly hear what Yu Zi was saying, even the sound of his surroundings was lost. The only person in his eyes right now was this woman, who was gesturing about in court, her movements, smile, and her confidence was all that he could see.
When the presiding judge announced Zhao Yuxuan to be innocent and released from jail, Zhao Yuxuan’s parents cried profusely while they hugged each other.
Even Mr. Zhao, who was usually calm and collected, broke down crying. Both husband and wife felt tremendous relief as they could not stop thanking Yu Zi and Song Dashen.
Song Dashen and Yuzi comforted them. Song Dashen reminded them, “You should go out to pick Zhao Yuxuan up. He should be released soon.”
Mrs. Zhao was startled and nodded continuously. “We’ll come by one day to personally thank both of you.”
“There’s no need for that. We’re just doing our job. Besides, Zhao Yuxuan is innocent,” said Song Dashen.
Mr. Zhao helped Mrs. Zhao out of the courtroom.
Yu Zi gave a sigh of relief. Only now did she feel a little weak in the knees.
“Now you’re nervous?” Song Dashen laughed.
Yu Zi exhaled and said, “I would never dare to be nervous in court even if I did feel that way.”
“You did good,” Song Dashen nodded and praised her.
A wide smile broke out on Yu Zi’s face as she blushed. It was like getting praise from a teacher.
She quickly kept away her things and followed Song Dashen out.
Most of the people had left the courtroom. Yu Zi turned to see Yan Huaian standing in the upper corner of the courtroom. He stared at her with a certain tenderness in his eyes.
Yu Zi blinked hard. She must be seeing things.
But when she opened her eyes, Yan Huaian was still standing there and smiling at her.
Song Dashen smiled and said, “You’re not seeing things. That is really Yan Huaian. You should go to him.”
He looked at the time. “It’s lunchtime now. You can return to the office after having lunch. There’s no hurry.”
Yu Zi gave Song Dashen an apologetic look. Song Dashen walked away with a smile.
Yu Zi walked slowly toward Yan Huaian. She could not hide the happy look on her face. “What are you doing here?”
“Today was your first time as lead counsel. How could I miss it? I was just worried that I would distract you, so I didn’t tell you about it,” said Yan Huaian.
“You’ve been here the whole time since dropping me off?” Yu Zi asked in surprise.
Yan Huaian did not reply and admitted to it. She blushed and told a white lie, “You would never distract me by being here.”
“Are you sure?” Yan Huaian lowered his head as he got nearer to her. His lips brushed against her ear as he asked quietly.
