Book 12: Chapter 86
"Boom!!!"
On the ground, only the spirits could see a red dot appearing in the distant sky. After that, red flames erupted from that point, blending seamlessly with the red sky.
Centered around Lin Xiang, the flames spread out in all directions, covering an area of a hundred meters.
————Squeak, squeak, squeak
The bats emitted piercing cries. Within the flames, there was a smell of charred fur and flesh.
Some blackened objects that caught the fire plummeted from the sky to the ground.
Within the sea of flames, Lin Xiang was not sure about the extent of his fiery range or how many bats were affected.
Only the screeches of the bats echoed in his ears, but soon, even those ceased.
"Phew~" Valarie heaved a sigh of relief, returning to her usual expressionless state.
Lin Xiang knew he had successfully taken down that group of bats, and now Valarie was no longer disturbed by the sound waves.
"Your flames… are quite impressive," Valarie remarked. Then she looked toward the west.
"Ha, it's just alright," Lin Xiang smiled, looking at the surrounding red flames with some confusion.
Why weren't my flames yellow? According to the previous spiritual fire, they should have been yellow…
However, red flames were a pure element, far superior in grade to yellow ones, so Lin Xiang stopped thinking much about it.
"Hmm?" Lin Xiang felt something suddenly swell against his back, where Valarie's chest was usually flat.
It felt soft, with considerable elasticity. Was it an illusion?
Of course, that was just one of the factors that puzzled him. Another was that the dispersed “Flame of Hell” in the air was flowing back towards him, or to be precise, towards Valarie.
Like a whirlpool in water, the flames flowed into Valarie's body. When Lin Xiang turned to look, indeed, Valarie had entered her mature state.
No wonder there were suddenly two things on his back! So, that's how it was!
Lin Xiang had a sudden realization. Earlier, when Valarie was carrying him, he had not thought much of it as unusual. However, Valarie currently no longer had the flat land, but rather a mountain that could make one sink deep within. She had to carry Lin Xiang while flying to prevent him from falling, so her chest felt like a balloon that had been flattened but could not be burst.
That made Lin Xiang somewhat uncomfortable.
"Valarie, what happened to you all of a sudden?" Lin Xiang nervously gulped. He did not turn his head, as it might cause friction or something.
"Little Valarie! There's a big fellow coming!" Bellina broke the water shield protecting herself from the flames, pointing towards the west.
"I know." Valarie had been staring at the west side since earlier.
Lin Xiang looked over to see a gigantic figure. A dragon with a somewhat decayed body and had remnants of purple liquid at the corners of its mouth was flying towards them.
‘A poison dragon? This could be tough,’ murmured Freed.
‘Are poison dragons very powerful?’
‘Yes, the poison dragons possess excellent conditions. If you come into contact with them or they touch you, you'll definitely get poisoned. Just like the ‘Flame of Hell' you released earlier, it's capable of both long-range and close combat. Its skin and flesh contain potent toxins. It wishes for you to approach it actively, to attack it, so it can release poison gas and poison you at once. Moreover, this poison dragon has been enchanted, so every aspect of its traits must be much higher.’
‘Does it have any weaknesses?’
‘I haven't encountered a poison dragon myself; Yalide knows more about dragons than I do. After all, dragons live in the demon realm, not the heavens.’
"Valarie, Bellina, let's retreat until we understand the enemy," Lin Xiang's words immediately provoked Bellina's dissatisfaction.
"Huh? Why should we retreat? It's just a lower-level poison dragon, and I can easily handle it. Besides, why should Little Valarie and I listen to you?"
"Understood, we… will retreat."
"Yay! Retreat! Let's retreat! Retreat is the best." Bellina exclaimed.
"You… just go ahead… and simply handle… that dragon," Valarie said, taking Lin Xiang and flying back without any further discussion.
“I was just kidding, Little Valarie, you're really something. I'm so petite and cute, how could I possibly beat that big guy up?” Bellina wagged along behind Valarie.
"Ah-oh!" After dealing with the bats, the dragons flying in the sky regained their composure. Some actively flew towards the poison dragon coming from the west.
"No! You can't go there!" Lin Xiang shouted at those dragons, but they simply ignored him, brushing past Lin Xiang and his group.
"Valarie, that poison dragon isn't an ordinary dragon, it's a demonic dragon. It's dangerous for those dragons to go."
"Dragons have their own dignity. Since they have decided to fight, we cannot stop them."
"That's right! So telling us to retreat is insulting our dignity, do you understand? You damn human kid!"
That was the first time Lin Xiang realized how little he knew about dragons. Even after visiting Dragonborn Village, he had not learned much about dragons.
No wonder Valarie suddenly entered her mature form. She wanted to fight.
"Valarie, I'm sorry. I didn't know about this."
"It's nothing…. For ordinary dragons… they’re like that… but for… ancient dragons… with higher consciousness… it depends on… the situation. That… poison dragon is… indeed not simple. Also… I can't fight… at full strength… in the air."
While speaking, Lin Xiang heard dragon roars, a mournful cry from the dragons.
Looking back, a toxic mist appeared in the air, and several dragons emitting purple aura fell from it, crashing towards the ground.
The other dragons that were relatively far away also realized the danger of the poison dragon and started flying back. However, being too close, they could not escape in time.
The wind dragon, the fastest among them, soared high, attempting to escape the poison dragon by altitude. However, the poison dragon followed closely, not lagging behind.
"Puff!" Suddenly, a burst of poisonous gas from the Poison Dragon's mouth hit the Wind Dragon's back, covering its entire body in purple. The Wind Dragon crashed onto the ground, stirring up a cloud of dust and startled birds.
"A poison dragon?" Yalide's eerie red eyes shone as she whistled. A wind dragon that had been circling in the air flew over.
Landing in front of Yalide, it caused a tremor on the ground. With a light leap, Yalide hopped onto the dragon's back, despite the spirits' slightly fearful gaze.
