Chapter 46

Cheng Jun’s right shoulder had been slashed when he fell on the shards of an empty glass ink bottle that had broken on the floor. In her panic, Ruan Jiu Jiu hadn’t noticed at all that an ink bottle had fallen. Thankfully due to the protection of his clothes, he avoided more glass shards injuring his skin.

Just seeing the situation made Ruan Jiu Jiu anxious.

Cheng Jun was supported out to treat his injuries and Xu Bi Ying was brought out for a diagnosis. Fortunately, it was just low blood sugar. She lay unconscious with an IV drip, and would probably awaken in a while.

Ruan Jiu Jiu fidgeted constantly in her seat, twisting here and there, spinning Tu Nan’s eyes as he watched over her.

Tu Nan couldn’t help but laugh as he asked, “Sister-in-law, what are you worried about? It’s just a small injury.”

“It’s my fault.” Ruan Jiu Jiu actually had had the opportunity to run away, but because she didn’t have the resolution to act, led Cheng Jun to rashly hurt himself.

Normily her movements were nimble. If it wasn’t for sitting in a chair for a whole day and getting so stiff that she couldn’t move, it was unlikely that Xu Bi Ying would be able to knock her over with a single push. From what Tu Nan said, Xu Bi Ying had gotten into the company building with the help of Miss Fang, who had already been fired. Miss Fang’s relationship with a few of the security guards was pretty good. Without only a slight amount of effort, Tu Nan had already fired a few of the guards.

The police who had rushed over made inquiries with a few people about the situation. Ruan Jiu Jiu responded to the questions honestly. They had already obtained the security footage from her floor, and in a while when Xu Bi Ying woke up, they would record her account and go back to investigate the tapes.

Because Ruan Jiu Jiu didn’t receive any direct injuries herself, and Cheng Jun only had light injuries, Xu Bi Ying’s actions weren’t enough to put her in jail.

Ruan Jiu Jiu only wanted to distance herself from Xu Bi Ying. That woman was crazy, who knew who she would latch onto like a rabid dog next.

Cheng Jun came out.

Tu Nan was just about to walk up to him when Ruan Jiu Jiu squeezed him to the side. He could only rub his head in embarrassment. The boss probably didn’t want him to rush up either, it was probably better to give the couple some space.

“Are you okay? Nothing serious? Does it hurt a lot? The injuries shouldn’t have been deep, you should still be able to move your arm right?”

Ruan Jiu Jiu was truly terrified. If Cheng Jun’s arm had issues, it would impact his entire life. Then, no matter what she did she wouldn’t be able to make it up to him.

Cheng Jun’s injuries looked scary but in truth they were very shallow and only needed a few days of rest to recover. They didn’t even hurt much. But he stared as Ruan Jiu Jiu stumbled over in a light run with her whole face wreathed in worry and concern, and his calm expression instantly transformed into a frown.

“It hurts a lot.”

“Quick, sit down and rest. Do you want some water? I’ll get some for you.”

“Okay.”

Standing to the side, Tu nan stared, stupefied. “…” The boss was truly beyond shameless!!

Cheng Jun drank some warm water as Ruan Jiu Jiu busied herself about taking care of him. She was basically on the verge of making him lie down and sleep. Tu Nan watched, the muscles in his straight face twitching. When Cheng Jun shot a death stare at him out of the corner of his eye, he immediately burst out in sweat and pretended that he didn’t see anything.

Just at this time a nurse came over and informed them that Xu Bi Ying had awoken.

Cheng Jun subconsciously tried to stand up, but Ruan Jiu Jiu pressed him back down and coaxed him like he was a child, “Just sit tight here. Don’t move, we’ll come back in just a bit.”

Tu Nan: “Pfft.”

Cheng Jun: “…”

“Sister-in-law just keep the boss company here. It isn’t anything serious, it’s enough for me to just go over for a look.”

Ruan Jiu Jiu: “But…”

“Don’t worry, don’t worry, let me handle it.”

Ruan Jiu Jiu watched as Tu Nan went over to a different hospital room. Xu Bi Ying pursed her lips tightly under the police officer’s questioning. She didn’t say a single word and just stared straight up at the ceiling. It was only when Tu Nan entered the room that she regained her attention. She stared at Tu Nan in disbelief.

“I only want to ask one question—”

In front of Xu Bi Ying, Tu Nan lost the usual genial and lively manner in which he usually interacted with Ruan Jiu Jiu. His eyes looked like they were dipped in ice. When his gaze swept by, the people before him would feel fear in their hearts.

“I don’t care what kind of excuses you have, what kind of doubts you have. I need you to understand that you broke into Jiacheng for your own selfish reasons and almost seriously injured someone.”

“Cheng Jun’s the mysterious behind-the-scenes big boss right? Right?” Xu Bi Ying totally didn’t pay any attention to what he said. She continuously muttered with a pale face, “I want to see Cheng Jun! I want to meet him!”

The minute she got worked up, a rush of red blood stained the transparent IV tube and the attending nurse promptly pressed her down to make her calm down.

“Ruan Jiu Jiu’s a liar, a cheat! She’s the same as me, only her act is better than mine. Don’t fall for her tricks!”

“Originally she wanted to divorce. She definitely changed her mind on divorce when she found out Cheng Jun had so much money!”

Without any expression on his face, Tu Nan turned to speak to the policeman on the side. “Find a doctor to look into her mental state. I have reason to believe that she has a maniac disorder and paranoia. It might be better for her to stay at a long-term psychiatric facility to recuperate until she’s well enough to come out.”

“Very well, we’ll contact a doctor tomorrow.”

……

On the other side, Ruan Jiu Jiu was in the middle of peeling a tangerine for Cheng Jun.

Cheng Jun sat obediently on the sickbed, cutely waiting for Ruan Jiu Jiu to deliver tangerine slices to his mouth. He silently watched Ruan Jiu Jiu devote herself to peeling tangerines, unable to take his eyes off of her. Ruan Jiu Jiu felt a bit uneasy at being stared at so fixedly and annoyed, glared at Cheng Jun.

“What are you looking at!”

Cheng Jun: “I’m scared you’ll eat the tangerine.”

Ruan Jiu Jiu: “…”

Cheng Jun: “Peel off all the white veiny parts cleanly.”

Ruan Jiu Jiu: “…I urge you to be more considerate, thank you.”

Because Cheng Jun had gotten injured because of her, Ruan Jiu Jiu couldn’t do anything too mean to him. If this had been a normal day, Ruan Jiu Jiu would have long already shot him down like a meteor falling from the sky. Where would she have found the patience to endure his provocation?

With a fierce demeanor, she peeled the tangerine cleanly and handed it to Cheng Jun.

Cheng Jun said with an innocent look on his face, “It’s not convenient for me to peel off the wedges with one hand.”

This was the last straw for Ruan Jiu Jiu. She was just about to explode when Cheng Jun immediately furrowed his brows and hissed weakly. “My shoulder hurts a lot, I think the injury reached my bone.”

“…” Very well, she would endure.

Ruan Jiu Jiu patiently split the tangerine into individual wedges and placed them into his hand. Only then was Cheng Jun satisfied, and he peacefully began to eat them.

“Back then, why did you hold onto me for so long without moving? Were you feeling dizzy?”

Ruan Jiu Jiu finally recalled long after the scene that at that time, Cheng Jun’s expression didn’t look right. He looked as desperate as a fish out of water as he tightly hugged her waist, almost making her unable to breathe. Ruan Jiu Jiu was almost starting to think that Cheng Jun had feelings for her, or why else would he hug her so tightly?

Cheng Jun was silent for a moment before saying, “I wasn’t dizzy.”

“It can’t be that you were worried about me,” Ruan Jiu Jiu said in a mocking tone of voice.

“Mhm.”

Ruan Jiu Jiu: “I just knew you wouldn’t…Mhmm??”

She went into a slight daze, not expecting Cheng Jun to actually go along with her words and agree. In Ruan Jiu Jiu’s mind, Cheng Jun’s world absolutely didn’t contain the word “romance”. On that topic, she and Jiao Fan oddly happened to be in total agreement in that both of them were steadfast in their belief that Cheng Jun could reproduce asexually, creating the next generation on his own.

Therefore, at the very first moment she had already eliminated the possibility of Cheng Jun falling in love with her.

Ruan Jiu Jiu: “What are you being so serious for? Don’t get me thinking that you’ve fallen for me!”

Cheng Jun gripped the tangerine in his palm, feeling the squishy tangerine wedges moisten his skin. He was just about to reveal the words in his heart when Ruan Jiu Jiu’s brow pinched together and she said, “That would be disastrous.”

The look in his eyes turned sluggish.

Cheng Jun didn’t have the time to ask “Why” when Tu Nan pushed open the door and walked in, saying “Why does that woman seem like she’s gone insane? She’s even demanding Gu You to come. If Gu You really is related to this, I won’t be able to forgive him”

“This doesn’t involve anyone else, she only wanted to find me to take out her anger on.”

“In any case, she needs to assume responsibility for the end result. How’s it okay for someone to just casually injure others when they feel like it?”

“But there is one thing,” Tu Nan turned to look at Cheng Jun with a look of distress on his face, “Boss, I accidentally let my tongue slip. What should we do?”

Cheng Jun returned to his senses.

He had a very indifferent look on his face as he slowly said, “If it’s been exposed, let’s just expose it.”
