Chapter 12 - 11: Waking Up in the Wolf’s Den

Chapter 12: Chapter 11: Waking Up in the Wolf’s Den

A soft warmth pressed against Cecilia's cheek.

Her drowsy mind barely registered it at first.

Still half-asleep, she instinctively nuzzled against it, seeking more of the comforting heat. It was soft yet firm, and there was a faint scent of lavender mixed with something metallic—like steel. It felt oddly familiar, safe even. She sighed in contentment, pressing her face deeper into the warmth.

Wait.

Her eyelids fluttered.

Something was wrong.

Her bed was too warm, like she was wrapped in another body's heat. The scent wasn't her own, and whatever she was leaning against wasn't a pillow. Blinking groggily, she shifted slightly, only to feel an arm tighten around her waist. A very strong arm.

Her breath hitched. Slowly, cautiously, she lifted her gaze.

Selene's face was right there, just inches away.

Cecilia stiffened, her mind going blank as she processed the sight before her. Selene, in her bed. Holding her. Their legs tangled together, her arms wrapped securely around Cecilia's small frame. Her usual cold expression had softened in sleep, her long lashes resting against pale skin.

Cecilia's entire body went rigid. Why was Selene here?! And more importantly, why was she sleeping beside her like this?!

Heart pounding, Cecilia carefully tried to pull away, but the moment she moved, Selene's grip tightened around her like an iron trap. No matter how much she struggled, she couldn't break free. The woman's strength was ridiculous!

Panic surged through her veins. She didn't remember falling asleep like this! The last thing she recalled was the mercenary attack—the kidnapping. Selene had saved her. She must have carried her back... and then what? Did she just refuse to leave? Did no one think to wake her up and tell her to sleep in a different room?!

Cecilia grit her teeth. This was bad. If she woke Selene up now, she'd never hear the end of it. But she couldn't just stay like this either! Bracing herself, she tried to shift again, pushing against Selene's arm.

That was a mistake.

Selene let out a faint sound—something between a sigh and a hum—and pulled Cecilia even closer.

Her face was now fully pressed against Selene's chest.

A muffled scream formed in her throat.

She was trapped.

She had to get out of this.

Cecilia took a deep breath, trying to stay calm despite being trapped in Selene's grip. If she panicked, she'd only make things worse. After another failed attempt to wiggle free, she slumped in defeat. There was no escaping Selene's iron grip.

She lay there, her mind still groggy, trying to recall everything that had happened. The last thing she remembered was Selene rescuing her, her body giving out, and then—nothing. Did she pass out in Selene's arms? That would explain why she was here. But that didn't explain why Selene was still holding her like this.

Her system notification suddenly flashed in her mind.

Right... the system!

If nothing else, at least she could distract herself. She mentally called upon the interface, hoping there was an explanation for all this madness. A golden screen appeared before her, and what she saw made her blood run cold.

[Relationship Meter]

[Soulmate: Selene von Aetheria – The Blade's Devotion]

[Affection Meter: 20/100]

[Description]

A warrior once bound by solitude, Selene von Aetheria no longer walks alone. What was once a cold, distant blade has now become an unwavering shield—her heart no longer locked behind walls of discipline, but instead, tethered to one person alone.

The devotion she once dismissed as weakness has transformed into something absolute. Selene does not simply protect Cecilia because of duty. She protects her because she belongs to her.

Her loyalty is no longer silent. It is unshakable, immovable. A force of nature that will not yield to reason, hesitation, or fear. There is no longer distance—only possession.

To harm Cecilia is to invoke the wrath of a predator that knows no mercy.

To take Cecilia away is to steal from the beast itself.

And Selene does not forgive thieves.

Her love is not gentle. It is fierce, consuming, eternal.

Cecilia is hers.

And nothing in this world—or the next—will change that.

---

Cecilia let out a strangled gasp.

"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!"

She immediately regretted shouting.

Selene stirred, shifting slightly, her grip loosening just a fraction. Cecilia held her breath, waiting to see if she would wake up, but after a few tense seconds, the knight remained asleep.

Letting out a sigh of relief, she turned back to the system window, her mind racing.

This was insane.

First of all, why was there a Phase 2?! She thought the affection meter was just some weird gimmick, something that measured closeness. She didn't expect it to actually unlock new levels of obsession!

Second, what was with this description?! "Cecilia is hers"?! What kind of messed-up setting was this?!

She scrolled further, hoping it was just a bad joke.

---

[New Skill Unlocked – Unbreakable Oath:]

A warrior bound by love is stronger than steel. Selene's presence alone creates an aura of absolute deterrence, making weaker-willed opponents hesitate or retreat in fear when she stands by Cecilia's side.

If Cecilia is harmed in combat, Selene will gain a temporary surge of enhanced strength, speed, and precision. The closer she is to Cecilia, the stronger she becomes. The further she is, the more restless she grows.

Distance breeds longing. Longing breeds hunger.

And hunger breeds violence.

---

Cecilia slammed the screen shut.

"THIS IS JUST UNFAIR!"

Why did Selene get a combat buff, while she got nothing but trouble?!

She expected some kind of useful power—a way to defend herself, maybe?

She had no skills of her own.

She wasn't stronger, faster, or even slightly enhanced.

No, all of her abilities were completely passive—only existing to make Selene stronger.

This make Selene now some kind of yandere bodyguard, but Cecilia had also just realized something even worse—

She was basically a walking buff machine.

This god must be high... or extremely bored.

Before she could mentally curse the heavens further, Selene stirred beside her.

Cecilia froze.

A sleepy hum left Selene's lips, followed by a slight shift of her body.

Then, before Cecilia could react, Selene brushed her fingers through her hair, smoothing it gently.

Cecilia's heart jumped.

The motion was gentle, slow, as if she were soothing a restless pet.

A warm breath ghosted against her ear, and before she could even react.

"Morning, Little Dove."

Cecilia stiffened like a board.

She slowly turned her head, praying she had misheard.

Selene was awake, her violet eyes half-lidded with sleep.

What... What did she just...?

Her face burned as she slowly turned to look at the woman beside her. Selene was still half-asleep, her usual cold expression softened by drowsiness. She stared at Cecilia with an unreadable look—somewhere between amusement and quiet satisfaction.

Cecilia's face turned red instantly.

"W-WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!"

Selene tilted her head slightly, her violet eyes half-lidded as if she hadn't just dropped a bomb on Cecilia's fragile sanity.

Then, with a lazy smirk, she repeated—

"Little Dove."

Cecilia's brain shut down completely.

Her entire face went up in flames, her ears burning as she processed the words again.

Selene, who was always distant, stoic, unreadable, had just woken up, brushed her hair like she was a pet, and called her something affectionate.

No, no, no, this isn't happening!

Her body locked up, unsure whether to run, scream, or throw herself out the nearest window.

The worst part?

She didn't hate it.

The sound of it, the way Selene said it so naturally—it sent an embarrassing warmth through her chest that she refused to acknowledge.

Cursed system... cursed soulmate bond... cursed everything!

She snapped out of it, shaking her head wildly.

"D-Don't call me that!" she yelled, desperate to regain control of the situation.

Selene raised an eyebrow. "Why not? It suits you."

Cecilia nearly choked. "IT DOES NOT!"

Selene hummed thoughtfully, still clearly amused. "Mm. No, I think it does. You're small, fragile-looking, and get flustered easily."

Cecilia gasped in outrage. "I AM NOT FRAGILE!"

"Really?" Selene smirked slightly. "You were clinging to me like one a few hours ago."

Cecilia's soul left her body.

"EXCUSE ME?!"

Selene stretched slightly, letting out a lazy sigh before shifting to sit up properly. "I don't mind, you know. If you ever need me, I'll always be here."

Cecilia felt her stomach flip at the way she said that so casually.

It sounded less like an offer and more like a promise.

Her heart was racing again, and she hated it.

This was too much for first thing in the morning!

She needed to escape.

"JUST LET ME GO ALREADY!" she practically shouted, trying to shove herself away from Selene's iron grip.

Selene sighed dramatically but finally released her hold.

Cecilia immediately scrambled to the farthest corner of the bed, putting as much distance between them as possible.

Her heart was still pounding, her breath uneven.

Selene just sat there, completely unbothered.

She smirked slightly, resting her chin on her hand as she watched Cecilia struggle to recover.

"Ungrateful," Selene pouted, feigning disappointment.

Cecilia shot her a glare. "FOR WHAT?!"

"For saving you, of course," Selene said smoothly. "I recall you clinging to me quite a bit after I rescued you."

Cecilia spluttered. "I— I DID NOT!"

Selene just tilted her head, her smirk widening. "Mm. If you say so."

Cecilia felt completely outmatched.

She couldn't win this argument.

Not with Selene being this annoyingly smug about it.

She needed a distraction—anything to change the topic.

Taking a deep breath, she crossed her arms. "What happened to the bandits?"

Selene's expression shifted.

The amusement faded, replaced by something colder.

"They're dead."

Cecilia swallowed. "All of them?"

Selene nodded. "I made sure none would come back."

Her voice was flat, emotionless, as if she were talking about the weather.

Cecilia shivered.

It wasn't that she pitied the mercenaries—they had kidnapped her, after all.

But the way Selene spoke about killing them so casually sent a chill down her spine.

"You didn't... hesitate at all?" Cecilia asked hesitantly.

Selene shook her head. "Why would I?"

Cecilia's stomach twisted at her unwavering certainty.

She wasn't sure what to say to that.

Before she could dwell on it further, a soft knock came from the door.

A maid's voice followed, gentle yet firm.

"Lady Cecilia, Lady Selene. The Viscount and Viscountess have requested your presence in their office."

Cecilia winced.

This... was not going to be a fun conversation.

Selene, however, just stood up, stretching slightly.

"Shall we?" she said smoothly, offering her hand.

Cecilia scowled but ignored it, hopping off the bed herself.

Her parents were definitely going to freak out.

She just hoped she wouldn't be trapped in another death grip after this.
