Chapter 109 - Side Story 19 – Not Going to Compete with You for a Seme (Gu Ming Ren x Lin Jiang)
At home, he was preoccupied and concerned about Lin Jiang’s health, not knowing whether or not he had taken his medicine.
Gu Ming Ren wanted to call but was afraid that would cause Lin Jiang to be fed up. His eyes dimmed and he kept his phone.
After dinner, he bade farewell to Li Yan and rushed off in his car.
But when Gu Ming Ren reached his apartment, he found that Lin Jiang’s shoes were gone from the entrance. His heart sped up and he quickly walked to the room, pushing open the unlocked door. It was empty.
Gu Ming Ren stared blankly for a moment, then walked over to feel the bed, checking for the level of warmth. It was already cool, showing that Lin Jiang had left not long after him.
He sat by the bed for a short while, sending Hao Meng a message: Has Lin Jiang returned to school?
Fortunately, he had exchanged numbers with Hao Meng previously.
Hao Meng responded quickly: He’s back, sleeping now.
He quickly glanced at the person on the top bunk while typing: Lin Jiang said he has broken up with you and told me not to contact you in future.
Gu Ming Ren explained immediately: No, he’s angry with me. If anything happens, please let me know as soon as possible.
Hao Meng felt that it was a possible explanation. Gu Ming Ren was handsome and rich. He should also be great in that aspect, or he wouldn’t have caused Lin Jiang to get sick. Such a partner was difficult to find, even with a lantern. How could he have broken up with him!
He replied eagerly: Okay.
At this, Gu Ming Ren felt relieved and took off his glasses to rub at the bridge of his nose. He leaned back and lay flat on the bed on which seemed to linger the smell of Lin Jiang. Gu Ming Ren inhaled and pretended that the other boy was still beside him.
It was difficult to resolve the matter regarding the Lin group’s husband and wife. Since they had absconded from the country, they would not have left clues for anyone to track them down. As for shouldering the blame as mentioned by Zhang Wei, it was initially the higher-ups that were laundering money. It had switched a few hands before the Lin group had been borrowed as a cover. The Lin group’s husband and wife had signed a contract. Once something happened, they would have to be held responsible.
High risks brought large rewards. Sudden large profits went to the heads of people who would always take chances, thinking that they could avoid any consequences until disaster struck, then they regretted it.
But Gu Ming Ren couldn’t tell Lin Jiang the truth. For one, he was afraid that Lin Jiang would act impulsively and make a big fuss. Secondly, the fewer people who knew about this, the better. Even he couldn’t figure out who the higher-ups were. There were always people who knew everything. Business owners couldn’t compete with officials. This was something that Gu Wen Tian often said.
Therefore, this matter would need to come to an end here. He had disclosed the information to Lin Jiang’s parents and that was already wrong. He had taken a risk and could not continue.
Gu Ming Ren was more intelligent than his peers and also more meticulous. However, he was still only nineteen years old and his ability was limited. He had already done his utmost to help Lin Jiang.
But the other boy didn’t trust him at all and wanted to break up with him at just some words from others.
Gu Ming Ren was bitterly disappointed and had considered just letting it go. But he couldn’t forget about when the two of them were together — Lin Jiang’s obedience and how he felt when he saw his behaviour. In order to have such a partner, he was willing to bear the pressure from his family. Even though this pressure made him suffer a lot, he felt that he could get through it as long as Lin Jiang was by his side.
He had tried to speed up the process but was still abandoned halfway.
Who could he blame?
He could only blame himself for being pathetic, blame the Gu family genes — after falling in love with one person, there could be no one else in this lifetime.
After Lin Jiang recovered, he resumed his normal life. He kept five thousand yuan in his card and returned the rest to Gu Ming Ren to show that he was drawing a line.
Gu Ming Ren didn’t say anything. When he had to go to class, he did. When he had to look for him, he did. It was like as if the two of them had never broken up.
During moral education class, Lin Jiang deliberately sat at the side to avoid Gu Ming Ren and being harassed by him.
Hao Meng poked Lin Jiang’s arm. “You haven’t made up with school grass Gu yet?”
It had already been so long and they were still at odds.
“Shut up, you.” Lin Jiang rolled his eyes and couldn’t be bothered with him.
He had already explained a hundred times that he had broken up with Gu Ming Ren! However, the other boy didn’t believe him and insisted that he was acting up. He didn’t know what kind magical potion Gu Ming Ren had given him to brainwash him.
“If you act like this, you’ll regret it.” Hao Meng felt that Lin Jiang was really wasteful and didn’t cherish such a good seme. On the other hand, he, who was such an understanding, adorable and exceptional uke, was of no interest to anyone. He could only decompress at night with one G of video, which he was about to finish watching and planned to make another G.
When Gu Ming Ren came in, he caught sight of Lin Jiang in a glance. Seeing people on all three sides of him, there was a glimmer of disappointment in his eyes.
But very quickly, his lips lifted and he walked over to him. “For you.”
Gu Ming Ren put the hot milk tea on Lin Jiang’s table. Lin Jiang rejected it expressionlessly. “I don’t want it.”
There were two cups of milk tea and Hao Meng quickly guessed that he had a share. He immediately used both hands to grab them. “I want!”
Gu Ming Ren was smiling. Because he had taken on a sophomore’s curriculum, his time was tight. At the same time, Lin Jiang was cold and distant towards him, so he had become thinner making his silhouette look more pronounced. When he smiled, he could pass as being tender, but when he didn’t, he looked so serious it was scary.
After witnessing the situation of Gu Ming Ren’s fiancée, the students from the finance major saw the domineering school grass’s forced love CP and gradually lost the direction of the wind. They thought that the forced love CP was unwinding but it now seemed like it hadn’t? After school grass Gu became the villain, he was indifferent to everyone and only greeted Lin Jiang with a smile. It was sweet thinking about it.
Gu Ming Ren found another place to sit. He yawned and slumped onto the table to rest.
Hao Meng drank the milk tea happily and pondered, “I think that school grass Gu is really good. Lin Jiang, if you don’t want him, can you give him to me?”
Lin Jiang looked at him like he had seen a ghost. “Have you been so lonely that you’ve become crazy?!”
Hao Meng touched his red ear and said without restraint, “A little bit.”
Winter was coming and he had to find someone to warm the bed. But recently, there were no number ones that had caught his eye. The last one had been “First-Year New Student”. Speaking of which, ever since he was cheated by “First-Year New Student”, he had not logged into that app. Hao Meng thought he should log on to have a look again — maybe there would be new people around.
As soon as the page was opened, his phone sounded with several private messages.
Hao Meng was surprised. He found that “First-Year New Student” had apologised to him a month ago! He said that the group of friends had been beaten up, and even sent him a photo of their bruised faces.
Hao Meng was a little excited but was afraid as well and showed his phone to Lin Jiang.
After reading it, Lin Jiang arched an eyebrow at him. “Didn’t you just say that you wanted to pick up Gu Ming Ren?” Hao Meng immediately reneged on his words. “How could it be! I’m not going to compete with you for a seme!”
Lin Jiang smacked him on the back of his head. “Bullshit, I’ve already broken up with him long ago!” Hao Meng could see it clearly. “That was your one-sided breakup, so it doesn’t count.” Lin Jiang: “…”
He was starting to doubt life. Did a one-sided breakup not count?
