Chapter 33: Did You Think You Were Going to Kill Me?
Chapter 33 - 33: Did You Think You Were Going to Kill Me?
"Kyle?" the mayor asked.
He was a mountain of flabby flesh, and as the door cracked open, a pungent odor of body odor wafted out from the room.
"Mayor, this is Mr. and Mrs. Ashu," Kyle, the law enforcer, said as he pushed the door open and ushered everyone inside before closing it again.
As soon as Ashu entered the room, the mayor and the man beside him cast eager glances his way.
"And there's also a lady elf," Kyle's introduction continued.
The mayor gave Leia a brief glance but didn't say much. In his position, he wasn't exactly new to elves. A powerful elf and a weak one gave off very different vibes. This elf was just a cultivator, at best a strong cultivator. While he himself was immersed in politics and didn't practice, the Cidi follower by his side was a high-level cultivator.
"First, welcome everyone. I am the mayor of this town. You must have come here because you're facing some difficulties," the mayor said.
Ashu didn't speak; he just nudged Kyle with his elbow.
Kyle, the law enforcer, feigned a casual demeanor as he walked toward the desk. "Mayor, the situation is like this..."
As he spoke, he suddenly lunged forward, punching straight at the mayor's face.
The mayor's face turned pale with shock. He never expected Kyle to suddenly go mad, a law enforcer who would break the law and attack his superior.
"Boom!"
Kyle's punch was powerful. As his fist descended, blue magical essence lit up around him. It was a secret technique from his family, capable of significantly boosting his strength.
The mayor's desk exploded into pieces from the shockwave of the punch, but the mayor himself was nowhere to be found.
He was being held by a black hand, and his massive weight, several hundred pounds of fat, felt as light as a feather in that hand's grip.
"Kyle! You're insane! Help! Help!" The mayor, once he regained his senses, was more angry than afraid.
He could feel the strong support behind him, his dear Cidi follower—a high-level cultivator!
With this backing, he only needed to summon the other law enforcers to easily take down Kyle!
"Kyle, you damned bastard, I'll make sure you and your whole family are destroyed!"
Just as the mayor finished his sentence, a highly condensed water droplet shot out like a bullet, aiming straight for his bloated body.
However, due to the difference in levels, the high-level cultivator helped the mayor dodge the vital areas.
The condensed water bullet only grazed the mayor's face.
Only then did he look at Ashu with an incredulous expression. "You...?"
Cidi followers were one big family, all selfless and loving believers. Why would Ashu attack him?
Before the mayor could fully process this, Anna unleashed a series of water balls, bombarding the mayor; while Leia caused the hard floor to sprout vines, which wrapped around the two men.
Once the assassination began, there was no time for words; they had to act with full force in the blink of an eye.
The small office was instantly thrown into chaos. The desk, bookshelves, sofa, and even the windows were shattered to pieces. Such a commotion naturally drew the attention of others nearby. The law enforcers who were slacking off downstairs at the guard post hurriedly grabbed their weapons and rushed to provide assistance.
However, as they moved, they were blocked by a group of fully armed bounty hunters.
Inside the office:
The mayor, realizing the situation was dire, quickly turned to the cultist behind him and said, "Hurry, get out! Once we're outside, they won't dare to do anything!"
Kyle had family considerations; a public fight with the mayor would have disastrous consequences for his family. In broad daylight, the Sacred Cultivator Guild would not stand idly by.
"Leia!" Ashu called out.
Leia understood and immediately summoned a large amount of vines to seal the doors and windows. The excess vines continued to spread inward, compressing the space inside the room. This greatly reduced the movement space for the cultist and the mayor.
Seeing this, Kyle, the law enforcer, pounced and gave the mayor a bear hug.
"Move now!" he shouted. As a law enforcer, he was adept at reading minds, and it was clear that the other side was trying to buy time. If this assassination was delayed for too long, not only would the four of them be exposed, but Kyle's family would also be disgraced and ultimately face judgment from the Sacred Cultivator Guild.
Therefore, they had to terminate the mayor's life at all costs.
Kyle activated his family's secret technique, using his immense strength to grab the mayor's fat and short right leg. Even a high-level cultivator found it impossible to pull him away without using his full strength, which would tear the mayor's body in two. This was exactly what Kyle and his companions wanted.
"Damn!" The high-level cultivator glanced at Ashu and flashed an evil smile. He dragged the mayor, forming a tug-of-war with Kyle, while his other hand gathered magical essence and released a purple beam.
At the same time, Ashu reformed his Water Bullet.
Everything happened in an instant. As the Water Bullet was fired, the cultivator's purple beam was also launched.
However:
Ashu's target was the mayor, while the cultivator's target was Kyle, the law enforcer.
"Whoosh—"
"Sizzle—"
The Water Bullet easily pierced through the mayor's skull, while the purple beam effortlessly penetrated Kyle's chest.
"An eye for an eye, my friend," the cultist sneered, then leaped with his formidable physical strength, smashing through the ceiling and disappearing into the night.
"Shit."
Ashu hurried over to the mayor. The mayor's brain matter was mixed with blood, oozing out of his skull. Ashu confirmed his death. Kyle, on the other hand, had a gory mess on his chest, vomiting blood and gasping for air like a broken bellows.
"Hang in there!"
"Young man, my, my bag..." Kyle, the law enforcer, struggled to say.
Following his instructions, Ashu quickly opened Kyle's waist bag. Two bottles of red magic potions stood out prominently. The clean seals indicated that he had prepared them not long ago.
"What are these?" Ashu asked, holding up the two bottles of red potions.
"High-grade Life Potions, give them all to him," Anna prompted from the side.
Hearing this, Ashu immediately uncorked the bottles and forcefully poured the potion down Kyle's throat.
"Ugh... cough... cough..."
With his chest and lungs damaged, Kyle's throat was clogged with blood and tissue. He was both vomiting and trying to take the potion. Even with high-grade Life Potions, it was difficult for them to be effective under these conditions, and it was also wasteful.
Seeing this, Ashu grew anxious. He used his Magical Essence to control two flying daggers and directed them to pierce Kyle's stomach. The sharp blades immediately drew blood, and Ashu decisively inserted the glass bottle into Kyle's stomach.
Instantly, the expensive high-grade potion took effect. Kyle's chest and lung wounds began to clot, and his breathing quickly stabilized.
"How are you?" Ashu asked.
He was actually asking Anna to check Kyle's vital signs, but Kyle thought he was asking him.
"Amazing, little brother, you thought you were going to stab me to death," Kyle said, experiencing such a treatment for the first time. Typically, when potions couldn't be used, immediate healing spells were needed. But Ashu had shown Kyle a new way—how to make the potion work even when it couldn't be swallowed!
The powerful effects of the high-grade Life Potion kept Kyle alive. Kyle couldn't die; if he did, all the previous promises would be for nothing. Relying on a verbal agreement to negotiate with Kyle's family would be futile. Who knew who in the family would recognize him? With the mayor dead, they would be busy seizing power.
"Let's get out of here," Ashu said, forcefully securing the potion bottle to Kyle's stomach with a piece of cloth, causing Kyle to grimace in pain. Even the toughest man couldn't withstand such abuse.
"God...," Kyle, the law enforcer, almost rolled his eyes back in pain, his tongue twitching as he tried to speak.
"Get up," Ashu ignored Kyle's pain and forcibly helped him to his feet, then looked at the dazed woman hiding in the corner, "What about her?"
"Take her with us, I'll handle it," Kyle gritted his teeth and replied.
The group set the mayor's body on fire and quickly left the scene. Outside, chaos reigned. The fully armed bounty hunters were facing off against the guard post, and Kyle's family was restraining the city defense forces. Both sides were on high alert, and a major internal conflict in the town of Riven seemed imminent.
The Next Move
The tension was palpable as they hurried through the narrow streets. Every step was fraught with danger, and the sound of weapons being drawn echoed in the air. They had to act fast and find a safe place to regroup. The fate of Riven hung in the balance, and the next few hours would determine the town's future.
