Chapter 173 - Statue

‘Swoosh’ suddenly the sound of an object piercing through the air entered into Layton’s ears, with a backflip Layton dodged out of the way as the tentacles of energy pierced through the cover of flames and tore into the spot Layton was previously situated. But it didn’t end there as the sound reverberated once again as more sharp tentacles were born aiming for his body which had still not landed. Twisting his body to the side Layton dodged once again his free hand using the missed attack as leverage to push himself further from his previous position while his axe was swung to create a safe space for his landing. All these happened in a matter of seconds and Layton was able to escape the flurry of blows the area he was previously in had all been pierced by numerous energy spikes and tentacles with a sufficient number that it seemed to form a sort of forest.

Its appearance meant there was no safe space free from the qi erosion anymore, Layton’s bio magnetic field tightly wrapped around him fighting what seemed to be a losing battle against the qi filled environment. With a low hum vast amount of energy seemed to surge within his body as his cells were undergoing destructive crippling behaviour to provide an energy source for his magnetic field supplying it with sufficient energy to keep the erosive qi at bay. Taking a heavy step Layton lunged forwards towards carl, numerous vine like attacks and tentacle shaped constructs whipped at Layton to obstruct his movements, the axe in his hand was not idle as it seemed to have become one with Layton sharing Layton’s strong bio magnetic field, the blade whirled and twirled as Layton’s great strength was used to parry and redirect the attack and he moved forward albeit slowly but surely.

There was a reason carl was at the top of the camp in terms of combat power and that was the fact that he already possessed immortal level combat power and was very hard to deal with, the reason being a combination of factors, the qi he created nominally is to be an energy source to pry various laws easily but its nature was peculiar being that it could easily spread, erode other creatures making them produce the energy and its contact with various laws meant they would be captured and refined by the energy, if carl was thrown into a low energy world he could easily corrode the plane dyeing it in his colours and allowing all creatures the opportunity to practice his system. This phenomenon naturally aroused the planes will disgust making it so the energy could never come into contact with the sea of laws and use any of the laws around, this made the energy have a peculiar suppressive effect on laws in its range.

In fact, Layton knew his present persistence was nothing but a lost cause but he wasn’t bothered he needed the pressure to move further only in a situation of sufficient danger and adequate exertion both physically and mentally would his thoughts gain enough clarity, strength and stability to start the procedure and allow him to survive. The procedures aim was simple and that was to create a new type of atom, one that would automatically emit a peculiar electromagnetic frequency when exposed to energy, this peculiar frequency would consist of the genetic information of his body and the frequency of his thoughts, allowing his influence and to truly reach the atomic level. That wasn’t all this frequency was followed by the special radiation of the atom their combination being extremely erosive, prolonged exposure would ensure its replication as exposed atoms would change becoming more in line with the frequency and radiation essentially becoming the new atom, with a sufficient Layton’s thoughts and influence would increase ensuring his strength swelled and ensuring his immortal nature as any atom subject to his influence would be able to become the instrument to his revival in the case of death.

Creating this type of atom was naturally not easy, his numerous experiments, creation and exposure to peculiar objects were his help in achieving this feat, he needed to keep on disintegrating his body cells and molecules and using enough force to keep his electromagnetic field stable, the external environment was helpful in keeping the magnetic field in shape and compressing it ensuring his thoughts were agile and he was able to intervene in the process of the continuous destruction and creation till his desired result was achieved.

Layton hadn’t taken more than 5 steps forward when the deflected attacks had already surrounded and restrained him, vine-like qi constructs wrapped around his muscles preventing him from exerting his strength or moving easily. Layton took a breath and a subtle frequency was let out from his axe, the metal started to crack open like a mirror and Layton’s palm let go of the handle as the weapon underwent terrifying nuclear fission and fusion aiming at creating a vast explosion, it was a pity that due to the effects of the surrounding qi, the explosion was suppressed and only caused enough damage to free Layton from his bondage.

Carl accepted Layton’s request for battle because he was interested in his unique path, it wasn’t the first time they had battled but from Layton’s confidence before this encounter carl believed he had gotten stronger and he wasn’t wrong the quick movement, use of rules and the axe method were eye opening but not too special and provided no substantial gains to him. looking at the individual that had already been pressured to the point of blowing up his weapon but was still dashing forward, Carl gave a sigh of pity and decided to quickly put an end to the farce. With this thought the whole sea of energy seemed to come down on his opponent, the ever-present qi quickly started to solidify and crystalize ignoring the opponent’s magnetic field and enclosing him turning him into a green motionless statue.
