Chapter 242: Tortured by eccentric women
Mo Liang had reached a point where he wanted to strangle himself and perish.
It was one thing to witness a fight where you at least have some knowledge of the context. It was entirely another thing to see two fanatics shooting daggers at each other without having the slightest notion on the issue and despite everything, trying to mediate the situation.
And it as entirely another heavenly realm to be glared at, chastised, and threatened for your attempts to reconcile those fanatics.
Heavens!
Women are crazy!
He seriously needed to have some good male friends.
Never before today had he felt the need so strongly.
Just when he was at the brink of losing his sanity, the door to their private room opened and a figure walked in. Likewise, the suffocating pressure inside the room lifted. When the fresh, breathable air finally made its way in, Mo Liang greedily sucked it in and filled his suffocated lungs. With a grateful face, he looked at the newcomer only to be surprised.
"You are...Zhou Liqin?" He was more than just surprised when the handsome man smiled politely in response. "How came...wait...are you the boyfriend Zhao Liying talking about?" Mo Liang was slow to process this but when he did, everything dawned on him.
Slowly yet surely, everything connected.
He quickly grasped why Jing Lihua was so against Zhao Liying's new boyfriend.
Once Zhou Liqin had appeared, the ugly expressions from Zhao Liying face disappeared. She happily stood up to hug him as a greeting. Afterward, she brought him forward to introduce him.
Mo Liang's response was normal.
However, Jing Lihua, though cold was not rude.
"Ms. Jing, I might have ended up offending you at that party. I hope you can find it in you to forgive me for that occasion." Zhou Liqin said with a slight bow.
"Doesn't matter to me." Was Jing Lihua's response.
Over the course of time, they continued to chat. Zhao Liying tried her best to bring life to the dinner, chatting energetically and urging Zhou Liqin to say a few words. Zhou Liqin, however, was a little reserved. And Mo Liang could tell that it was because of the scary aura radiating from Jing Lihua's side.
Even he, who sat several seats away from her, could feel the chilliness. Then the recipient of her cold anger, who sat directly across her must be far worse than him.
Instead, Mo Liang should applaud the guy to be able to withstand the coldness and not running away.
"...and Zhou Liqin told me a
bout this amazing villa in the countryside his family owns. You guys won't believe it. Not only it is aesthetically verdant, but it also has all the basic facilities." Zhao Liying continued with her chatter
Suddenly Jing Lihua chuckled.
And it was not a happy, joyous chuckle. It was the kind that would send chills down your spine. It was enough to send Zhao Liying into silence.
"Getting a villa in the countryside. Are you guys planning to live together already?" She asked with a hint of a smile.
At this, Zhou Liqin pursed his lips. Finally, in a voice that was not timid, he said. "Ms. Jing, it is the right time that I reveal this. Ying'er and I are going to get engaged soon. We hope to get your blessings."
"Oh?" Jing Lihua raised her eyebrow and asked silently. "Do your parents have knowledge on your plans?"
Zhou Liqin exchanged a look with Zhao Liying. "They do not know yet but we plan to reveal this to them very soon." He said.
"Hmm," Jing Lihua placed her chin over her palm; her incisive gaze sent Zhou Liqin into a state of nervousness. "Tell me one more thing, have Zhao Liying ever met your parents?"
Silence.
"Do they even know that you are in a relationship with Zhao Liying?" She probed.
Silence.
"I thought so." She laughed and took a sip of her drink.
Zhao Liying was aggrieved. "This is a decision that involves the two of us. We are the ones that are going to spend our lives together. What does it matter if we tell Zhou Liqin's parents or not?"
Mo Liang silently took a sip of his own drink as he continued to observe both parties. He could sense the tension; he did not have any intention to interfere.
Jing Lihua cast her gaze down. What she was going to reveal might be a tremendous blow on Zhao Liying. But not knowing this right now would only cause her an even greater pain in the future.
"The base of a relationship is trust. Mr. Zhou, do you agree with this?" She looked right into Zhou Liqin's eyes. In his eyes, she did not find any hint of guilt or shame. It was as if he had never done anything wrong.
"Yes," He said in a firm tone. "I and Zhao Liying trust each other with our lives. If Mr. Jing is concerned about that then I can assure you, there is no secret between us."
"Zhou Liqin is right. I have never hidden anything from him. From my past relationships to everything else. And Zhou Liqin has also bared everything in front of me."
A hint of uncertainty appeared in Jing Lihua's heart. If not for already having exp
erienced everything, she might have believed him. At the same, the confidence of Zhou Liqin's tone put her in dismay. If there was at least a little trace of guilt in his gaze, she had thought there might be a chance.
But there was none.
She laughed, taking another sip. "I am quite impressed with your views Mr. Zhou." She said slowly. "But do you really follow your views in practice?"
"I can't understand what are you hint—"
"I am not hinting. I am saying it straightly." Suddenly Jing Lihua's tone darkened. "Since trust is foremost in your eyes, have you told Zhao Liying about the engagement your family has arranged for you?"
