Chapter 189: Pursuit
Under the bright moonlight, when Lin Fan saw figures appearing on the ridge, he hid himself in the darkness.
Transforming himself into an Ember Moose, he waited for them to come near.
There was a team of around ten coming down to try and capture Lin Fan and the rest.
Each one of them was dressed in light armor and had only bits of fur.
They looked like the soldiers Lin Fan had dealt with earlier.
This was good news for Lin Fan, as he could take them on.
When one of the soldiers walked by, he saw Lin Fan in his Ember Moose form, and he got a jump scare.
"Damn you. I’m going to cut you up and roast you later."
The soldier cursed and continued on his way.
He didn’t suspect anything.
Lin Fan activated the antlers, making them start to burn brightly in the night.
The soldier saw the orange glow from behind, and he turned around.
The next thing he saw was a fireball coming toward his face.
Boom.
The fireball exploded, and the ensuing pain made the soldier cry out in agony.
His face was badly burned, and the charred smell of flesh filled the air.
The other soldiers turned back to see what was happening.
Before they could come near the burnt soldier, Lin Fan charged at the other soldiers.
"What the hell?"
"Get that Ember Moose!"
"It’s gone mad! Help me!"
One of the soldiers in front of Lin Fan tumbled and fell when he tried to dodge Lin Fan’s charge.
Lin Fan ran toward him, lowered his head, and using the antlers, scooped up the soldier.
"Argh."
Blood dripped down onto the ground as the soldier’s neck and abdomen were pierced by the antlers.
Lin Fan then turned his head and flicked the soldier off the antlers, like flicking off a piece of garbage.
"Round him up!" The leader of this reconnaissance party shouted.
But Lin Fan wasn’t going to let them do so.
He fired another fireball at the leader and galloped into the darkness.
The leader tried to dodge the fireball but got hit on his shoulders.
This angered him, making him lose his cool, and he shouted, "Don’t let that Ember Moose get away!"
His wrath got the soldiers scrambling toward Lin Fan’s direction.
By now Lin Fan had turned back into human form, and he waited behind a tree for the soldiers to come by.
When all of them had passed him, he appeared and grabbed onto the last soldier’s throat.
The soldier tried to break free, but Lin Fan was too strong for him.
With a swipe of his claws, the soldier was instantly killed.
Lin Fan continued to follow the soldiers in the dark.
"Where is the Ember Moose?"
"There’s no more track of the Ember Moose anymore."
"Yeah, it’s like it disappeared suddenly."
The soldiers were scratching their heads, wondering where the Ember Moose went.
They looked around for clues but found none.
Finally, they heard a rustle, and they gripped their swords tightly.
Lin Fan came out from the shadows and with his spear thrust it through three soldiers who were standing back-to-back.
They didn’t even have time to cry out in pain.
He pulled out the spear and turned to kill the rest of the soldiers.
One of the soldiers tried to parry Lin Fan’s spear with his sword, but it wouldn’t budge and plunged right into his neck.
"He is too strong for us! Run and try to inform General Hulu Ha Chi!"
The soldiers tried to disperse, but Lin Fan was too fast for them.
With his Chain Leap, he killed them off one after another.

"What’s taking you so long to deal with an Ember Moose?"
The leader of the team said as he approached.
Lin Fan quickly stowed his spear and turned back into an Ember Moose.
"You..." The leader of the team was shocked at what he saw.
All his men were dead.
Maimed and killed by an Ember Moose.
How could it be possible? he thought, as most of his soldiers were great hunters in their own right.
The leader of the team, in anger, drew out his curved sword and lunged at Lin Fan.
To his surprise, Lin Fan turned and ran down the slope.
By now, the leader of the team had lost his temper and didn’t think of the consequences.
He wanted only the Ember Moose dead.
So he gave chase and ran down the slope, pursuing Lin Fan.
But the Ember Moose was fast and agile in this terrain.
When it turned around a corner, the leader lost sight of the Ember Moose.
"Come out wherever you are!" The leader of the team shouted and gritted his teeth.
He looked around, but there was nothing but trees, bushes, and dark shadows.
Lin Fan hid behind a tree and waited for the right moment.
Soon after, the leader of the team walked by, and Lin Fan grabbed onto the leader’s neck.
The leader tried to cry out for help, but Lin Fan had ripped out his throat before he could do so.
All that the leader could muster was a hissing sound as the blood and air from his lungs escaped.
Lin Fan had lured them away from the main path and killed them in more secluded areas.
And hopefully, this would delay more time for the team.
Lin Fan then ran back to the main path and got rid of the soldier with the burnt face.
He took care to discard the soldier’s body in the opposite direction from where the others were, trying to sow confusion.
After doing all this, he quickly ran down the path to join the others.
His usage of his amulet to turn into the Ember Moose had allowed some of his Qi to recover. Read new chapters at novelbuddy
But it wasn’t much, as he did not have much left.
Just enough to use the Eight Trigram Beast Transform Strike once and the Decurion Leader ability once.
He had to delay the Hulu Tribe soldiers’ pursuit with the least amount of Qi and energy expended.
"Who’s there?" Hu Tuo’s voice was heard as Lin Fan finally caught sight of the team.
"It’s me, Lin Fan."
Hu Tuo looked over Lin Fan’s shoulders and saw no one.
He then nodded at Lin Fan and said, "Welcome back."
