If he had to guess, the army is to create a permanent base in the area. Protecting the dungeon should the news were leaked, and having a permanent harvest force.

The first one is he planned on using them to create his own army, one composing the village’s guards and other combat force he subdue.

The second is he can get more information, allowing him to decide whether to strike the city quickly, or wait. He did not plan getting himself due to not having any information.

Grade 5 Spells can have several setting. The first, easiest one would be power setting. It simply pouring Mana into the Magic Circle without changing anything, resulting in a powerful and uncontrollable spell. Oh, the damage will remain in the area, but it will still be devastating, especially for the more destructive attribute like Fire, or Earth.

The second setting is control as he like to call it. Basically, he control the Grade 5 Spell. It still launched, causing great destruction, but it can be controlled by the caster by a larger degree.

For example, Ardent can set an area to not be as badly affected as it could potentially be, and so does the vice versa.

This time, he decided to use Plant Magic. Plant Magic, while not being as destructive as Fire Magic, is also a potent Magic to bind opponent while not harming them like Ice Magic would.

So, Ardent cast the Grade 5 Spell in the area of the invasion force. As a powerful Mage, he can easily expend or reduce the size of the Spell area. Expanding the Spell require more Mana though, depending on the size of the area.

However, it was the easy part. The hard part is to control the Spell, for his Grade 5 Plant Spell, Forest Growth is not a relatively deadly Spell, it still dangerous. Hence, relatively to other Grade 5 Spell.
