Chapter 1242: Is it working now?

[PRESENT TIME]

Five months later...

"In loving memory of Francis Ramon (Ram) Awsum..."

The Reapers stayed in the funeral service from start to finish, reading the gravestone the workers put in place. The air was quiet with only faint sniffles here and there.

"Awsum till the end," Tiger commented after calming down. He smiled bitterly, nodding at the gravestone with a brave look.

He stood tall and lowered his head, paying respect to the man one last time.

Everyone also saluted, carrying brave expressions as they sincerely sent Ram off.

They knew this day was inevitable, but none of them could stop the tears trickling down to their faces.

"You will be missed." Wolf offered a smile to where Ram rested. "Have a lot of fun with Felice and Vincenzo."

Bear sported a short smile. "Don’t wait for us too. It’ll take a while before we join you."

Wolf glanced at Bear, and the man looked back at him. They slowly set their eyes on the grave of their dearest friend, who had spent his last few months riding a motorcycle with them.

In the first two months after the wedding, Ram stayed with Hera and her family. But after that, he decided to leave and go on some adventures with Wolf and Bear. The three of them rode across the states with their motorbikes until Ram couldn’t ride anymore.

Bear and Wolf stayed with him to the very end, far away from Hera as Ram’s wishes.

"We’ll come by every once in a while," Bear said. "Next time, let Hera come."

Wolf rocked his head. "So long, brother."

Silence immediately followed Wolf’s remarks, as if everyone was trying to let this reality sink in. After a long minute, Bear turned around and faced everyone.

"Hera is throwing a party to celebrate Ram’s life," he announced. "Let’s send him off with a blast."

Meanwhile...

"He is... cruel, isn’t he?" Hera bit her bottom lips, standing in front of the stand where Ram’s portrait was placed. "How can he make such a request?"

Hera locked herself in the bedroom just so she couldn’t come to Ram’s funeral. She gave him her word, but she knew she might want to take it back. After all, she wanted to be there with him even for one last time.

Dominic, who was standing beside her, slowly pulled her into his embrace. He didn’t say a word and simply patted her back gently.

"It’s so unfair..." she buried her face in his chest, her tears and snot damping his shirt.

"Ram lived a long life, Hera," Dominic whispered, resting his chin on top of her head. "Though I think he was being stubborn, I also think it’s for the best."

Watching Hera and her children would only make Ram want to live longer. However, Ram didn’t want to be in pain.

"He fought his whole life and I’m sure the last months of his life were the greatest memories he would cherish," he added soothingly. "He might not be with us anymore, but he’ll always live in our hearts."

"His memories will live forever not just for us or the reapers, but also for our children who loved him dearly," he added, gazing down at her.

Hera slowly looked up at him and he cupped her face. Using his thumb, he wiped her tears and smiled subtly.

"I understand the pain, but Ram would be much happier if we send him off with a blast." His lips stretched a little. "Instead of crying, let’s cry with a smile as we celebrate such a precious life."

Tears rolled down her cheek as she forced a smile.

Dominic leaned forward and planted a soft kiss on her forehead. "It’s alright, Hera."

Hera squeezed herself into his embrace, releasing all of her sadness before the party. She made a promise to Ram, and she didn’t want to cry later. What Ram wanted was to be sent off with a smile, and even if it was hard, she would do it for him.

Hours later, cars and even helicopters started arriving at the couple’s love nest. Most of the Reapers came from the funeral from both Ram and Dominic’s funeral. There were a few who didn’t attend any of those funerals, but still attended the party to celebrate Ram’s life.

When the night fell, the palace was packed.

Gathered in the garden where Ram had his boxing match with Wolf, the couple stood in front of countless people. Ram’s portrait was placed on the table in front, with his favorite bottle of beer and ramen beside it.

"Five months ago, I made a promise with Ram," Hera spoke aloud, maintaining a beautiful smile despite her slightly swollen eyes.

Most of them had swollen eyes after all, especially Axel, who did an impeccable act at his brother’s funeral. However, their lips were stretching from ear to ear, holding their chosen drinks.

"To be honest, it’s a hard promise to uphold." Her smile cracked, but she managed. "Throwing a party after a funeral service... he asked for quite the demand, did he?"

The crowd chuckled.

"But Ram does deserve to be celebrated. He’s not just an underling who does a clean job, but also, he, together with Bear and Wolf, was my mentor. Each of them contributed to the Hera Cruel I am today." Her eyes softened as she lifted her glass. "Without Ram, I would’ve lost sight of the line between reasonable and unreasonable."

"Without him, life would’ve lost complete meaning and without him, Hera Cruel would just be Hera Cruel without a heart," she proudly added. "I make this toast to celebrate the man who cut pieces of his heart to patch mine, and forever, he will live in my heart."

Everyone raised their glasses for the toast and chugged their drinks down.

But just as they gulped down their chosen beverages, a projector suddenly started playing. They all gazed at the white background behind the table, only to see Ram sit down in front of the camera. Everyone was surprised a little, but the most surprised of all was Hera.

She didn’t remember setting up a projector for a video Ram seemed to have taken himself.

As everyone fixated their eyes on the projected screen, they watched Ram fix the camera.

"Is this working now?"
