Chapter 14: Donnerwall(3)
Chapter 14 - Donnerwall(3)
Althora, affectionately called the Human continent, is the second largest continent in the world of Elmar. It comprises three vibrant kingdoms and one grand empire. We have the Ashbourne Kingdom, known for its bustling trade and commerce, the Ironvale Kingdom, home to brave warriors and skilled aura users, and the Eldoria Kingdom, often referred to as the Kingdom of Wisdom and Knowledge, which celebrates the brilliance of mages. Last but not least, there's the Germainia Empire, a wonderful blend of all three kingdoms.
All four regions have mostly co-existed with peace and harmony aside from a few disputes here and there. But no matter how peaceful a place gets, there is always something happening in the shadows.
No matter how grand a city or town gets, there always will be crimes happening in the darker areas of the city also called the slums. Crimes like—Stealing, murder, slavery, organ trade, and all sorts of heinous crimes. It was similar back on Earth too.
These are crimes overlooked as they are committed against the lower class of society—the commoners. It is harsh but it is the truth—Even if I despise that, this is how the world works and there won't be any change in how it operates.
"M-Mom...Hic...Hic..."
"How much for this brat?"
But at the moment, one such crime was being committed right in front of me.
I hid behind the wall listening to the conversation between the two people, both of them were males and one had a small child over his shoulder. Both of them were talking in broad fucking daylight and still no guards around—are the Blitzfeld this incompetent? Or do they don't care?
I think it is the latter.
'Dante, can you gauge their levels?' I asked.
[Sure] he replied, [Both of them are weaklings, you don't have to use your lightning to defeat them]
'Ok, I think I will help'
[Didn't you just ignore another kidnapping that happened before?]
'And I would've ignored this one also' I replied, 'But they are standing in the entrance of the alleyway which I often used as a shortcut to the train station in the game.'
'Also if I had used any of my lightning abilities back then, the color of the lightning would've revealed my identity to the whole town.' I explained, 'Amethyst lightning can only be wielded by the Blitzfeld because we are the only house on the continent that has the legacy of Thorvian passed through our bloodline.'
[I already know that]
'Then stop asking!'
I released a sigh and glanced back at the deal going on in front of me.
'The child looks familiar'
The child who was no more than nine years old had emerald hair and gold eyes. He was wearing quite extravagant clothes—a noble's child? Alone in the alleyway? Kidnapped by a bastard to be sold off.
Then it clicked.
'Ian Von Nachtwald' I thought as I clenched my jaw.
[You know him?] Dante asked seeing my tense reaction.
'Not personally but as a character in the game' I paused and closed my eyes remembering the events that occurred, 'A tragic character'
Ian Von Nachtwald is the youngest son of Count Eren Von Nachtwald and the brother of the sub-heroine, Selene Von Nachtwald. In the side quest for Selene, you help her find her brother who went missing in Donnerwall before the game even started.
Later in the side quest, it is discovered that he was sold as a slave to a noble in the Eldoria Kingdom, and his fate—it was something that I still remember—a horror.
He was used as a sex slave by the family's daughter who was twenty-three years old and this child was like ten. He used and torn apart and that was not the worst part because later when Raiden finds him...
That child he was used in an experiment where he was merged with mana beasts—it not only destroyed his mana core but any hope of him living a good life.
And now the event that started this side quest was happening right in front of me. His kidnapping will start the quest in the game and if I intervene—the story might change even if it was a side quest, it had its impact.
Because the Selene route will cease to exist.
But that is not a problem for me because I think I will just let the story flow even if it was a side quest it still had its effect—So, it would be better not to intervene.
I started walking away, there is no way I could take the shortcut now so the normal way it is.
"Shut the hell up brat!" The man shouted as he threw the kid on the ground.
I halted, I don't know why but I stopped right in my tracks and turned around. Making my over to the two men. One of the men with tanned skin noticed me, he had a few scars on his face. He wore ragged clothes that most of the people of the slums wore. Across from him was a man with finer clothes who was most likely the trader.
"What do you want, brat?" The man asked his tone sharp.
"Nothing," I said. I don't know why I was doing this but something—that burned in my heart won't let that kid succumb to the tragic fate—I don't know what that is. This feeling, I was angry but why?
Was it Noah's kind-hearted nature or just because I felt pity for the child? My heart raced in my chest as I stopped right in front of the scarred man, he was irritated by my presence which clearly showed on his face.
"Then what the hell do you want!?" He shouted, veins bulging on his temples, "I already have a bad day going, and now-"
Before he could finish his words, my hand shot out to his face. He stumbled back as I held my grip. His eyes widened at my firm strength and he tried to break but...
[Lightning Bolt] I muttered.

Mana arched in my veins as amethyst lightning crackled on my fingers striking and burning the man's face. He screamed but his voice was muffled with my palm, the scent of skin burning filled the air as the trembling of the man subsided. He fell to the ground, his face completely burned and unrecognizable. His chest was no longer heaving.
'I killed him...' My mind raced, my fists clenched and my jaw tightened. My whole body trembled at the realization, this was the first time I had to kill someone. It did not feel great, I did not feel any joy. It only felt revolting.
[Calm down, there is still another one] Dante interrupted my thoughts as he reminded me of the other man.
I faced the other one, his legs were shaking in fear and his pants were wet. He was looking at the man who had offered him to sell the child—who now lay still on the ground with his face burned.
Then I glanced at the child Ian, he was not saying anything. His eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at me with fear in his golden eyes.
'Did I traumatize him?'
[Yes but at least he won't suffer the same fate as before]
Yes, Dante was right but still, my conscience gnawed at me. What will happen now? I saved him which means Selene's quest would cease to exist. Even if it was a side quest, still it will have its impact.
I turned toward the buyer who was still shivering and unsheathed my estoc. Aiming it at his throat. "Don't worry, I will end your fears" Saying that I pierced his neck with my blade. His eyes rolled back and the man buckled on his knees holding the blade, blood oozed out of the wound covering my newly acquired weapon.
"Tsk," I clicked my tongue and extracted my estoc cleaning it with the man's clothes and putting it back in the scabbard around my waist. I had killed two people but it was okay, it was needed. This is an experience, I need for the future.
I turned my gaze towards the child and walked toward him. He was still scared as he slowly started to back away by dragging his body on the ground.
"It's fine," I said kneeling beside him, "I will not harm you"
His tear-streaked face looked at me with doubt. It was a natural reaction to what I had done.
"It's okay, I will help you find your parents," I said as calmly and politely as possible.
"R-really?" Ian asked his voice wavering, "W-Will you help me?"
"Yes," I replied fabricating a smile, "But where are your parents?"
"I-I was with my B-big brother and S-sister" He paused his voice still stammering, "At the S-station."
"I am heading there anyway, wanna tag along?" I asked standing up and holding my hands out for him.
Ian did not say anything but nodded, holding my hand. I pulled him up and dusted his clothes.
"Then let us go"
