Chapter 288: The Commander can see through Chaos too (3)
"What?" Lucas couldn’t believe it. In his eyes, Arin was a normal person, but the commander knew something about him.
’Wait, I didn’t even ask him how he knew my master.’ Lucas looked at Arin with skeptical eyes.
No matter how much he tried to sniff the air, in his radar, Arin was not strong.
"The commanders assigned near a gate are told to keep a record of all the potential citizens that can enter the branch. Arin is among those potential ones. Your letter for selection is incoming anytime soon, you just need another good hunt in your record." The commander said with a smile, his smile was that of a sage.
Lucas kept looking back and forth with surprise.
"I will talk with Arin for a while, Mr. Apprentice. You can go to that room to clean up." The commander showed him the gate and Lucas entered it while looking back again and again.
The bathroom from the inside was a lot more better than the one he was living at. Lucas quickly removed his clothes and opened the shower, the cold water fell on his body invigorating him fully.
It took a lot more than a few scrubbings to get the dried blood off him but he was used to it.
After he was done, he just wore his clothes again which were still dirty yet it was now bearable.
"You took so long." Arin right by the gate said with a small smile, something told Lucas that he was very excited by the news he just got.
"The Commander asked for you in his office, it’s right there."
"Ugh, can’t we just leave now? I have a tournament coming up." Lucas said with a groan.
"What tournament?"
"Uh, nothing?" Lucas went toward the gate and opened it after a few knocks.
Arin was a bit confused about it yet he waited outside.
"You’re here," The commander looked toward him toward the gate, "I hope the bath was to your liking."
The commander was sitting on his chair, there was a table right by him that had all kinds of papers and books on it.
"Yeah, it was really good. Better than what I have experienced before."
"That’s hard to believe but I am glad it was to your liking."
There was a small moment of silence where the demeanor of the commander changed from smiling to serious.
’What is it now?’ Lucas thought with an inward groan, annoying things were happening one after the other.
"Mr. Apprentice…"
"Lucas is fine."
"… Ok, Lucas… I will cut to the chase now. When I saw you for the first time at the town’s entrance, I felt something from you." The commander asked with a straight face.
Lucas knew the time for bullshitting was over, if the commander sensed something from him, it may have been related to the one thing which was bad inside his body.
"I really do not want to do this but Lucas… Do you... have chaos in you?"
SILENCE
’I knew it…’ Lucas just massaged his temples.
He just nodded in response to the commander’s question.
"Haaa… I knew I sensed that right. It’s been a long time since I met someone with chaos energy." The commander’s eyes were gleaming dangerously.
Yet Lucas was unfazed in front of such pressuring eyes.
"You’re someone clouded in mystery, Lucas. But since you are residing in the town without the Church’s knights on you means that they don’t see you as a threat."
Soon, the pressure in the room faded. Not that Lucas was fazed by it yet he could still feel the discomfort.
’So there are strong people here too huh…’ he controlled the smile from coming out yet the commander could see the crazy in his eyes.
"That’s what I am talking about, Lucas. I first noticed it when you looked at me and said that the strong should be above everything. You have very dense bloodlust." The eyes of the commander narrowed while speaking.
"I don’t understand what you are trying to imply." Lucas frowned for the first time since he met the commander.
"You see, I don’t have good memories when it comes to the chaos energy, I knew someone a long time ago… I saw his sanity crumbling for a long time till he was finally put down before he could do any more harm to the people around him." The eyes of the commander were very nostalgic and sad while he looked at Lucas.
"I see… I am sorry to hear that... but" Lucas took a deep sigh and looked at the commander again with determination as he continued, "I will overcome the chaos with the help of alchemy, the path that I am following right now."
The commander first looked surprised yet Lucas could feel the same sadness in him but also, there was a sense of relief that Lucas could sense coming from him.
"So you know about it already… The point of the story I told you and this whole conversation is that you have to be a lot more careful than you have been till now. The chaos I can feel inside you is not a lot right now, but it will grow with time."
Lucas nodded in response, he was aware that the commander was genuine now through the inner emotions that he felt coming out of him.
"I will be careful but… can all the commanders and the ones ranked above feel the chaos just like you did?" Lucas had some conflicted feelings toward this thought.
Right now, he was glad that the commander had not sensed the darkness that he had accumulated till now.
"Unfortunately… no. As much as I would have liked all of us to be able to sense the chaos, it’s likely not possible without external help. My case is special."
Lucas was relieved yet he didn’t show it on his face, he simply nodded.
"I just wanted to warn you that your path is filled with many difficulties, ones that normal people don’t usually have to face. That will be it." The commander got up from his seat and bowed again.

"Thank you for warning me, commander. You don’t have to worry that I will lose control, my master is helping me suppress the chaos until I get rid of it completely."
The commander looked a Lucas for a few seconds until a genuine smile formed on his face.
"I look forward to your recovery, Lucas. If you have any problem, come anytime, my doors are always open." He came close to Lucas and after a bit of hesitation, patted Lucas’s shoulder.
"I will."
Lucas left the room and closed it behind him, a warm smile on his face. He felt satisfied with the interaction just now.
’Not everything is going bad huh…’
