Chapter 78: Two-headed Red Tail
Ethan’s mind raced as he barely escaped the massive axe, the force of its impact sending tremors through the ground. This thing is a tank, he thought, his eyes darting to his insectoids as they regrouped and launched another relentless assault on the hulking demon.
No, this was a bad choice. He needed to choose something weaker. Something he could turn the tables with. Also, even if he somehow killed this demon, he wasn’t sure if he could add it to his summoning list. It could become a repeat of the zombie fiasco.
Ethan’s gaze landed on the two-headed beast fighting against three of his wolves. "That one." He commanded one more insectoid to join the fight with the hulking demon and dashed toward the two-headed beast.
His wolves snapped and lunged at the creature, but it fought back viciously, its twin heads snapping at the air with rows of jagged teeth. Each head moved independently, coordinating its strikes to keep the wolves at bay.
[Level 29, Two-headed Red Tail]
The two-headed beast roared, its massive form twisting as one head lunged at a wolf, its jaws clamping down with a sickening crunch. The wolf yelped before vanishing into a puff of mana, leaving Ethan down one summon.
The other wolves fought on, their teeth sinking into the beast’s flanks, but their attacks barely pierced its thick hide. The beast was relentless, its movements fluid and brutal as it swiped and snapped at anything within reach.
Ethan sprinted toward the melee, shouting, "Keep it busy!" His wolves redoubled their efforts, distracting the creature as Ethan maneuvered into position.
With a flick of his wrist, he summoned two slimes. The gelatinous creatures landed on the battlefield with wet splats, their semi-translucent forms undulating as they oozed toward the beast.
Both slimes latched onto the beast’s hind leg, and the agile creature suddenly lost balance. One of the wolves took this chance to land a bite. The beast bellowed in pain, thrashing to dislodge the slime. Its focus wavered, one head snapping toward the irritation while the other head continued to fend off the wolves.
Now.
Ethan darted in, aiming for the creature’s underbelly which looked a little softer than the rest of the body. He drove his dagger into the softer flesh, feeling the satisfying give of the blade sinking deep.
Level 29 was strong but not everyone scaled equally. This beast was not nearly as strong as the hulking demon.
The beast roared, its tail lashing out wildly, but Ethan ducked and rolled away, narrowly avoiding the whip-like appendage.
"Again!" he barked at his wolves, and they lunged, one of them managing to get another bite. The beast staggered, its movements growing more erratic as the combined assault took its toll.
One of its heads let out a guttural snarl, snapping at a wolf, while the other head turned toward Ethan, eyes gleaming with fury.

"Fuck off!," Ethan muttered, darting forward again. This time, he targeted the beast’s neck and plunged the dagger in with all his strength.
The beast reared back, both heads roaring in agony as dark blood sprayed from the wound. Ethan held on, twisting the dagger before yanking it free. The creature swayed, its strength faltering as it tried to retaliate.
Ethan didn’t give it a chance. He continued stabbing it repeatedly and more and more blood sprayed out. The two-headed beast let out one final, pained roar before collapsing to the ground, its massive body kicking up a cloud of dust as it fell.
Ethan staggered back, panting, as the system notification appeared.
[Ding! The entity Two-headed Red Tail has been added to your summoning list]
"Oh fuck, thanks!" Ethan panted rigorously. For a moment he was worried the level difference or its race might do something funny but just like the other beasts this one was also added to the list.
His hand trembled slightly, still feeling the vibrations from the repeated stabs that had brought the beast down. But there was no time to celebrate. He summoned the newest recruit and tried to take advantage of the chaos.
"Do you know any one of those guys’ weak points?" He asked the beast and to his surprise, the beast snorted and dashed forward.
The Red Tail barreled toward one of the demons—a lanky, clawed creature with glowing red veins crisscrossing its blackened skin. The demon hissed in surprise, slashing at the charging beast, but the Red Tail moved with surprising agility for its size. One head lunged low, snapping at the demon’s legs, while the other head aimed for its midsection.
The demon stumbled back, unbalanced by the ferocious attack. Ethan’s mind raced as he watched the scene unfold. "If this thing knows how to fight them effectively, I might have an actual shot."
Ethan turned to the wolves and insectoids on his right side. "Support the Red Tail!" he commanded, his voice steady despite the chaos around him.
His summons moved as one, flanking the struggling demon while the Red Tail pinned it down. The group then surrounded the demon and attacked it relentlessly.
