Chapter 79: Spiders to the rescue
Ethan frowned as he watched the fight progress. This demon was not as bad as the previous one and his team was able to inflict injuries. The problem was the injuries were healing up fast and on top of that the skin was sturdy even to begin with. At this rate, once again they were playing a losing game.
"What about poison attacks?" Ethan wondered. He couldn’t help but think that poison would work against this type of fast healing ability. Sure, it was video game logic but at this point, he was open to trying anything. He just needed one more demon down to turn the tables for good.
Ethan immediately summoned his spiders. They did not take much mana to pop out which was a plus point. The con was that they were weak creatures still at level 1. One wrong look from the demon and they would be dead.
Ethan gritted his teeth as his spiders emerged from the void, their small, chittering forms skittering toward the battlefield. The sight of the level-1 creatures amidst such carnage might have seemed laughable, but Ethan wasn’t relying on their brute strength. He was banking on their unique ability—poison.

"Alright, my little friends," Ethan murmured under his breath, his voice tense. "I need you to do what you do best. Bite and don’t stop until that thing can’t heal anymore."
The spiders scurried forward, weaving through the chaos as the hulking demon swatted at the wolves and insectoids surrounding it. Ethan’s stronger summons were doing their best to keep it occupied, their attacks relentless but insufficient to cause lasting damage.
The first spider reached the demon’s leg, climbing swiftly along the thick hide until it found an exposed gash. Its fangs sank into the wound, delivering a dose of venom. The demon barely seemed to notice, its attention focused on fending off the larger threats.
One by one, the spiders followed suit, targeting the creature’s open wounds. Their bites were small, barely drawing any reaction from the demon at first. But as the venom began to accumulate, subtle changes became apparent.
The demon’s movements grew sluggish, its swings less precise. The fast healing that had made it so formidable began to falter, the wounds closing slower and slower until they stopped entirely.
"It’s working! Fuck ya!" Ethan shouted but his eyes widened in terror as another demon came straight for him from the side.
Ethan barely had time to process what was happening as the new demon barreled toward him, its grotesque form cutting through the chaos like a battering ram. Its jagged claws gleamed wickedly in the dim light, and its glowing red eyes locked onto him with predatory intent.
"Oh, come on!" Ethan cursed, scrambling to react.
His wolves were too far to intercept, and his spiders were too focused on poisoning the healing demon to help. He reached for his dagger, but he knew it wouldn’t be enough against this new attacker.
"This is bad," Ethan muttered, bracing himself.
The demon’s claws tore through the air toward Ethan, each swing crackling with malicious energy. With a surge of desperation, he raised his dagger to intercept the first strike. The force of the impact reverberated through his arm, nearly wrenching the weapon from his grip.
The demon sneered, its jagged teeth glinting in the faint light as it pressed its attack, claws slashing again and again. Ethan dodged and parried with every ounce of skill he could muster, but the sheer ferocity of the assault left him barely holding on.
He finally let slip one attack and the sheer force of the swing set him reeling backward, a huge slash marring his chest from right to left. Blood dripped and the demon came bounding towards him, smacking its lips.
"Mana Bolt!" Ethan shouted loudly as he made a last-ditch attempt.
His cry echoed through the chaos as a small sphere of crackling energy formed in his palm, fueled by the last reserves of his mana.
The Mana Bolt wasn’t strong—not compared to the attacks from the demons—but it was fast. The glowing projectile shot forward, striking the demon square in the chest.
The force of the impact staggered the demon, a sizzling burn spreading across its grotesque form. It let out a guttural snarl, its glowing red eyes locking onto Ethan with renewed fury.
"That... didn’t buy me much time," Ethan muttered, clutching his bleeding chest. The slash burned, each movement sending jolts of pain through his body.
The demon charged again, its claws raised for the kill. Right at this moment a few notifications popped up in his mind.
