Chapter 305 - 302-Am I the Scapegoat Now?!
"Master, the three of them have been played to death," Redhair's voice came through nonchalantly.
"Clean it up. Bring the bald rabbit back with you."
As Velen turned and walked away, the rabbit burst into hopeless wails.
"It's over, it's all over! They used to call me the rabbit—now it's just the bald rabbit! This is a total fall from grace!"
Illusory Demon Tower – Elder's Residence
"Illusory Demon Elder, the Titan Elder requests an audience," a gray-robed apprentice reported respectfully.
"Not seeing anyone! No visitors!"
An irritable voice echoed from within the chamber.
He still hadn't recovered from the psychological damage of witnessing Star Emperors being brutally toyed with like rag dolls.
"But it's the Titan Elder…" the apprentice hesitated.
BANG!
Before he could finish, Illusory Demon Elder burst through the door in a panic, sending the door splintering into pieces.
The apprentice stood there dumbfounded.
"Was that really necessary…?"
"Titan Elder!"
Illusory Demon Elder rushed into the reception hall, immediately putting on his best smile upon seeing Velen waiting for him.
"Illusory Demon Elder, I came to ask a favor."
"Don't worry, I'll make sure it's worth your time."
Velen was as direct as ever.
"You're too polite! Whatever you need—just say the word!"
The elder thumped his chest in pledge.
BOOM!
A massive chunk of radiant crystal—two meters tall and one meter wide—appeared before them as Velen took it out with a casual wave.
"Holy—???"
"Gods above! That's… that's a Phantasmal Spiritstone? And that big?!"
Illusory Demon Elder turned pale with disbelief. In all his years, he had never seen such an enormous piece of Phantasmal Spiritstone.
"So this is a Phantasmal Spiritstone?"
"It reflects people's figures… isn't it just a mirror, then?"
Velen examined it with great curiosity.
"If you want to use this for armor coating, you'd be better off going to Amethyst Elder," Illusory Demon Elder said, trying to subtly decline.
"I specialize in array formations. I'm afraid I won't be much help here."
"No, this task can only be done by you."
Velen's voice grew serious.
"I want to use the Phantasmal Spiritstone to construct a giant labyrinth at the entrance of the sanctuary. I need you to build a complex magic formation using the labyrinth as the core."
"A defensive array to protect the Phantasmal Spiritstone from destruction."
"A slaughter array that triggers if anyone attacks the labyrinth."
"And ideally, make all the spiritstones mobile—capable of rearranging themselves at will to constantly alter the maze layout."
"This way, anyone wanting to enter the sanctuary must pass through the labyrinth trial!"
——
Use Phantasmal Spiritstone to build a labyrinth?
Just how much would that cost?
And this wasn't even remotely what the stone was supposed to be used for!
Hearing the full scope of the insane plan, Illusory Demon Elder nearly lost it.
His imagination spiraled—anyone entering the maze would definitely lose all sense of direction, maybe even their sanity, thanks to the reflective properties of the stones.
What the hell do I do now?! We just agreed earlier that anything to make Velen happy, we'd support without question. But this? This I genuinely can't pull off!
Illusory Demon Elder looked across at Velen, who was watching him with eager eyes, full of anticipation. The elder's heart sank.
Velen noticed the elder's growing discomfort.
"Is it really that hard to do?" he asked, brows slightly furrowed.
The elder sighed. He didn't dodge the question anymore and instead motioned for Velen to follow him outside the Illusory Demon Tower. Together, they headed toward the entrance of the Endless Sanctuary.
"See that sword stele?" he pointed. "That's the core of the Great Divine Magic Array. It's the most powerful slaughter array in Endless Sanctuary's entire history—passed down for over a hundred thousand years. It has guarded this sanctuary for ages."
"If we activate it, even a god-rank being would die trying to force their way in."
The elder gestured at the towering black sword stele, over two meters tall, situated firmly at the sanctuary's threshold.
"Back then, Endless Sanctuary was a mighty force even in the upper plane universe. But generation after generation, we've declined. Now, we're just a regional overlord in this small star domain."
Velen listened with surprise. He hadn't realized Endless Sanctuary once wielded such prestige.
The elder continued:
"Because of the Great Divine Magic Array here, there's no way to overlay other major arrays on top of it."
"And to stack a new defensive array on top of that, plus control a labyrinth built from Phantasmal Spiritstones? I just don't have that level of ability."
Finally, the elder revealed the real reason he couldn't help.
Velen's expression shifted thoughtfully.
"Wait a second… Didn't you say Endless Sanctuary used to be located somewhere else?"
"Doesn't that mean the array core—the sword stele—can be moved?"
"This array was created by a legendary formation master from the sanctuary's golden age," the elder explained. "It could be relocated… exactly three times."
"But those three moves were used up ages ago."
Velen's eyes narrowed.
"Then what if we destroy it?"
"Destroy it?! You want to destroy the core of the Great Divine Magic Array just to build a labyrinth?! That array is the last line of defense holding Endless Sanctuary together in the upper plane universe!"
The elder was visibly shaken, but he didn't dare anger Velen. He quickly forced a smile.
"I mean, in theory… it could be destroyed. But we don't have the power to do that."
"The array core isn't some random artifact. Even if all eight elders worked together, we couldn't leave a scratch on it."
"But if you can destroy it, then yes—we can build the labyrinth."
He spoke calmly, fully convinced that Velen couldn't possibly do it.
Not unless a god-level being showed up.
"Eye of Annihilation!"
In the blink of an eye, a surge of annihilating energy burst forth. The sword stele, which had stood guard for over a hundred thousand years, vanished without a trace.
"…There. That annoying sword stele is gone now."
"Illusory Demon Elder, can we proceed with constructing the labyrinth?"
Velen turned to him with a smile.
???
Illusory Demon Elder was completely stunned.
He wasn't sure what had just happened, but he'd been watching Velen the whole time. He had clearly seen Velen's eyes turn pitch black for a brief moment—and he had felt a terrifying aura of total annihilation surge outward.
It lasted less than a second, but it was enough.
"My gods… It's really gone!"
The elder turned toward the entrance, and sure enough, the array's core—the sword stele—was completely gone.
Panic seized him.
"That was the sanctuary's final defense mechanism—how am I supposed to explain this to the Sanctuary Master?!"
His eyes slowly returned to Velen, now filled with sheer terror.
This… this isn't the kind of power a Stellar Rank Level One cultivator should have…
"Velen… Elder," the man stammered, "Then let's… begin building the labyrinth."
"But my skills are limited. The best I can do is construct a formation capable of withstanding the full-force attack of a Star Emperor Rank level 9."
"If any stronger enemies appear in the future, the labyrinth might not hold. The Phantasmal Spiritstones could be destroyed or stolen."
By now, he no longer dared to object.
He just hoped Velen wouldn't be displeased—because if he got angry… who knows what might vanish next?
