Starting as a Class Five Mutant

A few minutes later, Magneto—helmeted and cloaked—walked out from the Brotherhood base.

Standing among the crowd, he looked up at the figure in black floating in the sky and exclaimed with emotion, "Child, have you come to see me?"

"Are you ready to join the Brotherhood of Mutants?"

"Come, child. Only with us—the Brotherhood—will you find your true home!"

Hearing Magneto's impassioned words, Syd twitched at the corner of his mouth and shook his head.

"I didn't come here to join the Brotherhood of Mutants."

Magneto's face subtly changed, a hint of disappointment flickering across his features. "Then... what for?"

Toad, Sabretooth, and the others nearby looked just as puzzled.

Instead of answering, Syd descended slowly and began walking in circles around Magneto, carefully observing him.

Toad and the others instantly tensed, suspecting Syd might be planning something hostile.

But Magneto waved them off. "Relax," he said, puzzled. "Is there something wrong with me?"

As he continued his circling, Syd calmly asked, "Your ability is to control metal, right?"

Magneto blinked, confused by the question. "Yes... is there a problem?"

Toad and the others were just as baffled. Wasn't this common knowledge?

Under their watchful gazes, Syd continued circling him and said in a calm tone, "Your power should be to control magnetic fields—one of the four fundamental forces of the universe: electromagnetism. So why are you limited to just controlling metal?"

Magneto froze, momentarily stunned.

At that moment, information about Magneto surfaced in Syd's mind, and the reason became clear.

As he pieced it together, Syd explained, "There's a kind of invisible restraint in your mind—subconscious programming, if you will—that convinces you you can only control metal."

"This subconscious limit restricts your power, making it so you can only manipulate magnetic forces through metal."

Magneto stared at Syd, stunned.

In his understanding, Messiah was known for his overwhelming power—but he hadn't expected the man to understand his ability in such depth.

What Syd said next left them even more shocked.

"If you can break through that restraint," Syd said slowly, "you'll undergo a secondary mutation. Your power will truly awaken—and no longer be limited to just metal..."

Syd recalled that mutants could undergo secondary mutations—a phenomenon where their powers evolved or amplified significantly.

It could be triggered by external stimulation, such as drugs, or simply by further mutation of the X-gene.

This could lead to anything from new powers to massive boosts in existing ones—or even physical transformations.

For instance, Beast—originally just a mutant with incredible speed and agility—underwent a secondary mutation that made him regress into a blue-furred, muscular creature with claws and fangs.

Kitty Pryde may have experienced similar changes, gaining the ability to phase people's consciousness through objects.

Even the Black King experienced this—after his secondary mutation, he could absorb not just energy, but even psychic powers, making him nearly invincible in all aspects.

Unfortunately, he died too early.

Syd reflected, "My own energy absorption ability... could that count as a secondary mutation too?"

It was a subtle concept—he might've overlooked it altogether if not for Magneto's issue.

As he pondered, Magneto and the others looked at him with shock.

"Not limited to metal?" Magneto muttered, stunned.

He had always believed that controlling metal was the extent of his power—but now, he realized there might be more?

Controlling magnetic fields?

With trembling breath and a look of longing in his eyes, Magneto instinctively tried activating his power.

A distant piece of metal floated into the air...

He clenched his fists, focusing with all his strength to control something other than metal.

But no matter how hard he tried—no matter how he willed or convinced himself—he could only manipulate metal. He simply couldn't achieve what Messiah described: control of the magnetic field itself.

Toad, Sabretooth, and the others watched with growing doubt.

"Is Messiah really telling the truth?"

"Could he be messing with Magneto?"

Syd heard their whispers clearly and gave them a sidelong glance.

Magneto, now visibly disheartened, stopped trying. With a sigh of disappointment, he said, "I can't do it..."

Syd wasn't surprised.

If it were that easy, Magneto would've figured it out by now—and become unstoppable.

Secondary mutations were extremely difficult to achieve and typically required external help. In X-Men: Apocalypse, for example, Magneto only achieved it after being enhanced by Apocalypse.

At that time, his powers changed drastically. The environment around him would distort under his influence—clear signs of magnetic field manipulation.

Whole cities crumbled under his power. Matter disintegrated and floated into the sky—he was a true force of nature.

But aside from that one encounter with Apocalypse, he was never able to replicate that feat.

If he had been able to, even a plastic prison wouldn't have been able to hold him. Nothing would've.

With these thoughts swirling, Syd looked at the dispirited Magneto and calmly said, "I can help you."

Magneto, looking like he had aged several years in mere moments, paused—stunned. His eyes widened as he looked up at the floating Messiah. "Help me? You can help me undergo secondary mutation?"

His voice was filled with disbelief.

Could Messiah really do that?

Not only Magneto—Toad and the others were equally shocked.

Without saying more, Syd raised both hands.

On his right hand, the power of Creation activated.

A mysterious force enveloped Magneto, strengthening the X-gene within him.

On his left, red-shrouded Chaos Magic activated—targeting Magneto's mind, twisting and rewriting his subconscious.

A silent hum echoed.

In that moment, the mental restraints holding Magneto back shattered.

Magneto's expression turned dazed as he felt something change within—both physically and mentally.

"I..."

He lifted his hands, staring blankly at them.
