Chapter 74: DINNER DATE 2
"Have you found a perfect place?" Alanis spoke to Gus over the phone. Ever since his grandmother initiated the dinner date, he has been searching for the nicest restaurant. It would be his first date with his wife even if his grandmother was going to be present. Alanis wanted everything to go well.
It’s funny how in the past, Harlow has always been the one to chase him around. But in this life, he was the one chasing her. Begging for an ounce of attention from the woman he loves.
In his past life, he had been a jerk, but in this life, he promised to love and pamper his wife more than she would ever imagine.
"Yes sir, I found the place." Alanis smiled.
"Send the address and book a reservation for three."
"Yes, boss." Gus has been happy since he heard the news about his boss going on a date with his ex-wife. Truthfully, they don’t know how Alanis did it, but he had successfully grown their business from scratch to the level it is now. The investors that left before all came back begging to invest in the company again.
They have all seen the vision of the company and have all trusted Alanis to handle the company very well this time.
Alanis now seated on his swivel chair in his office finally rose and headed back home. He would also need to prepare for the date as well.
.
During the time of evening, Harlow and Grandma Hamilton stepped out of their rooms. Grandma Hamilton was wearing one of the two dresses she had picked earlier for her date and Harlow wore a casual blue jean, a white shirt, and a jean jacket. She tied her red hair into a message bun and stepped out of the room.
She applied no makeup and didn’t wear any accessories at all except the necklace Ava gave her. She said it was her mother’s dying wish for her that she wear it all the time.
"Miss Harlow you’re not yet ready, it’s seven thirty already and I think a car is already waiting outside," Ava said as she stepped out of the kitchen. She had been excited about the date as well especially since Harlow hadn’t found another man. She should get back with Alanis before someone else snatched her away.
Harlow is beautiful, sooner or later there will be more than ten eligible bachelors knocking at the door for her hands. Knowing Frank, he would give her out to just anyone.
"I’m all dressed." Harlow smiled. Ava was speechless for a moment. She couldn’t believe this. Her miss was really serious when she said she wasn’t after any man at the moment.
If she looked this less appealing, he would definitely go back to marry her sister. "Miss Harlow..."
"That’s enough Ava." Grandma Hamilton said. She knew what the girl was about to say and she didn’t want her to say it. Getting Harlow to go on this date with her wasn’t easy. One moment she was happy to go and the next, it’s like she’s reminded about something and gets easily angry and refuses to go.
"Your attire is beautiful granddaughter in law." Grandma Hamilton said sweetly.
"No need to flatter me, grandma, I know it’s casual. It’s just a dinner date, it’s nothing special." A honk was heard coming from outside the house.
"I guess this is our queue?" Grandma Hamilton said and started walking out of the house when she suddenly fell on the couch holding her head.
"Grandma," Harlow called. "Are you okay?" She asked, panicked stricken.
"I... I’m fine daughter in law, I just feel a little dizzy." She said.
"I should get Alanis, maybe he should take you to a hospital." Charlotte held her daughter-in-law’s hands immediately. "There’s no need for that Harlow." She turned to Ava who understood her gaze immediately and said.
"Mr. Hamilton has already arrived Miss Harlow, you should head out for your date. I’ll take good care of Grandma." She said.
Harlow couldn’t believe Grandma Hamilton had set her up on a date with that gullible man again. She should never be alone with that man, he’s always something else when around her.
"There’s no need to go for the dinner then. I can’t eat anything knowing you’re not well."
"Don’t be foolish child." Charlotte masked her irritation with a smile. She has been planning for this to happen for weeks, Harlow couldn’t ruin her plans. "Harlow dear, represent me at the dinner, tell Alanis I fell asleep and couldn’t attend so he doesn’t worry too. You need the good food and experience after months of suffering." Grandma Hamilton said to her.
"She’s right Miss Harlow. You should have fun at times. Besides, Mr Hamilton is your husband, he’ll take good care of you." She said for Harlow to shoot her a glare.
"Since you’re not coming, I’ll see you later then." Harlow smiled sweetly. A smile that fell flat the moment she stepped out the door.
"Be careful Miss Harlow and don’t forget to open your mind," Ava said from behind and Harlow rolled her eyes. Oh then did Harlow know she had been deceived? These two women had set her up with Alanis, the one man she never wanted to be with.
She could understand why Grandma Hamilton would betray her but Ava?
Maybe Ava has been a big fan of Alanis from the beginning of time. But Ava regretted her decision once she saw Harlow’s condition a few years after the marriage back in her past life.
She got married and could no longer visit Harlow anymore, but she regretted not opposing Harlow’s marriage to Alanis. The regrets were already too late as the Blackwoods lost their empire and the Hamiltons rose to the top.
Those black, soulless eyes locked onto hers the moment she stepped out. To the world, Harlow was plain, unremarkable for a girl her age, especially one nearing the cusp of marriage. But to the man standing before her, she was radiant, unmatched in beauty. To him, everything she touched, everything she wore, turned to gold.
Harlow’s chest tightened under his unrelenting gaze. Was he searching for something? Or someone?
Was it her sister...?
She knew all too well that Alanis had never truly loved her. But couldn’t he, at the very least, mask the discomfort that flickered across his face whenever she was near?
