Chapter 9: : The Company That Stooped to Dishonourable Means
Lin Chu was surprised when she saw the documents that were handed to her.
Lin Chu thought, ‘Yan Hui, isn’t that Yan Beicheng’s company?’
In addition to the five-star Hotel Sheng Yue across the globe, they also owned holiday resorts, chain restaurants, and a mysterious upper-class club that was only meant for prominent figures in the society. They even invested in a few films and television works in recent years.
She searched the internet for a long time, but she still could not find any video interviews. She could only dig up an interview article, but what left a great impression on her was not the content of the interview, it was the conversation between the reporter and Yan Beicheng before the interview.
The reporter asked, “Master Yan, when would you have time for the interview?”
Yan Beicheng replied, “There’s no need for that. I’ve learned how to use WeChat recently so you can just interview me on WeChat.”
The reporter said, “Alright, please send your WeChat ID to me and I’ll add you as a friend on WeChat.”
Yan Beicheng responded, “What’s a WeChat ID?”
“Then I’ll send you my WeChat ID, you can add me.”
“How do I do that?”
“…”
Didn’t you learn it already? Did you really want to go on with this interview?
[Editor’s note: After a friendly negotiation between both sides, the reporter and Master Yan’s personal assistant, Mr. Zuo Qiu, added each other on WeChat and the reporter conducted the interview with Mr.Yan through Mr. Zuo Qiu’s WeChat. At the same time, we learned more about Master Yan’s down-to-earth side.]
“…” Lin Chu thought that the ignorant side of him would be more fitting.
She looked up for the business client she was going to meet tonight, the vice president of Ding Shang whose surname is Yao. There was even a Baidu Baike page about him, but it was all about his life story and accomplishments. There were only positive things about him so there was not much use.
Lin Chu suddenly remembered that the company Xu Moyan was working for had business relations with Ding Shang, so she made a phone call.
“You’re having dinner with him?”
Her tone gave Lin Chu the jitters.
“Why? What’s wrong?”
“He has a very bad reputation. My company only sends male colleagues to business meetings with him. In the beginning, female colleagues were sent to talk business with him as well, but he brazenly harassed my female colleagues even though my male colleagues were right there. My female colleagues were all afraid of losing their jobs so they kept quiet about it. There was once he put his hands on me, and of course, I couldn’t let it slip. I talked to my supervisor about it, thankfully he was very understanding. He even consoled my female colleagues who were sexually harassed by him. Ever since after that, they only send male colleagues to talk business with him,” Xu Moyan said.
Lin Chu frowned and said nothing.
Xu MoYan added, “You said your manager asked you and Zhu Jingjing to go with him? It’s obvious that he’s setting you up, you have to be careful. If anything happens, just call the police. You’ll just lose your job at most. It’s not worth it to work for a company that stoops to dishonorable means.”
The corners of her mouth lifted, Lin Chu was glad that Xu Moyan was concerned about her and offered her advice. At least now she was aware of the kind of person she would be dealing with. She ended the call, went to the washroom and removed her makeup before she got off work. With her bare face, she felt that she was somehow in disguise and that it would help her to obscure her presence.

Side story — “Master Yan Has No Clue on How to Use WeChat”
When Yan Beicheng first learned how to use WeChat, he was elated. He tossed his phone to Zuo Qiu and made Zuo Qiu add him as a friend on WeChat. He insisted on using WeChat to communicate with Zuo Qiu whenever something came up.
Yan Beicheng said, “Zuo Qiu, please come into my room.”
Zuo Qiu walked into the room, “Master Yan, what’s the matter?”
Yan Beicheng was holding his phone and pressing on the voice recording button and saying, “Please take this document to the planning department.”
Zuo Qiu was just about to take the document but Yan Beicheng said, “Check your WeChat!”
Zuo Qiu heard the sound of the notification and opened WeChat on his phone. After he played the voice message, then only Yan Beicheng was willing to hand over the document.
“…,” Zuo Qiu was utterly speechless.
Later on, Zuo Qiu posted a thread on an online forum: ‘My boss is insisting to communicate with me on WeChat even though I’m just right in front of him. Please let me know what I should do. Urgent. Waiting online.’
