Chapter 315: Another day, another ex
Meanwhile, back at the inauguration party Alix had just come face to face with the woman that may or may not have tried to kill her. The introduction between them was made by a dour faced grandma Zhang. It seemed, she didn’t like Caishen’s ex very much.
Lai Yanfang eyed Alix with disdain and disgust. It was clear that she thought Alix was not worthy to be in her presence or have her respect.
She passed a hand through her hair gently and smiled insincerely. "It’s a pleasure to meet you miss Lin."
Old Alix would have been intimidated by the good looks of the woman, her perfectly flawless skin, pouty red lips, small high nose and overall gorgeous appearance but the new confident was not.
If it was a competition for flawless skin, hers was just as flawless, even better. If it was height, Alix was taller and if it was Caishen, Alix had him. She was the wife and Yanfang was nothing more than an ex girlfriend.
Alix mimicked her actions and passed a hand through her own hair gently. She tilted her neck and exposed a very obvious red mark that could not be mistaken for anything other than a hickey.
She smiled as insincerely at Lai
Lai Yanfang eyed Alix with disdain and disgust. It was clear that she thought Alix was not worthy to be in her presence or have her respect.
She passed a hand through her hair gently and smiled insincerely. "It’s a pleasure to meet you miss Lin."
"Who are you again?" Lai Yanfang asked Alix.
Alix almost guffawed because this woman was trying to be petty or derisive because there was no way she didn’t know who she was. Grandma Zhang had just introduced her as her granddaughter-in-law.
"You seem to be forgetful at such a young age miss Lai. You should go to to a hospital and check for signs of dementia." Alix replied, coquettishly.
She tried not to smirk when Lai Yanfang clenched her jaw angrily but failed. She hadn’t started this war in pettiness, Lai Yanfang had taken the first shot. All she was doing was responding in kind.
She put a hand on her chest and said, "I am Caishen’s wife. Maybe you don’t remember but grandma introduced me to you as her grand daughter-in-law."
Lai Yanfang batted her lashes and replied, "Oh, right, you are brother Caishen’s wife. I had forgotten that he was married because i missed the wedding and still thought his wife is Lin Billi. I apologize for my mistake. It’s not your fault really, most of us knew about Billi the genius pianist and not you."
There was smugness in her eyes as she said this. It seemed as if she thought she was stabbing Alix where it hurt the most.
Alix scoffed and rolled her eyes. "You are the wife of a man whose family owns an insurance company. If you are mistaking identities out of ignorance and lack of simple knowledge then i worry for your clients. I do think that you need to get your brain looked at by a doctor. Oh, and don’t worry about missing the first wedding, i will make sure to send an invitation to the renewal of our vows seeing as to how sad you are for missing out."
She spun around, and cut off every chance Lai Yanfang had to retort. She turned her head to grandma Zhang who had been standing by and watching the exchange with interest. "Grandma, i see the mayor of the city. Why don’t you give me an introduction?"
"Certainly, dear." grandma Zhang replied.
She guided Alix across the room slowly with a smile on her face. She was very impressed with the way her grand daughter-in-law had handled herself in front of Lai Yanfang. They had invited the older Fu’s for the event not expecting that grandma Fu would come with Lai Yanfang. Anyway, at the end of the day, Alix had done well it matching her snide remark for snide remark. She had even covertly called Yanfang stupid.
"Hahahaha." grandma Zhang laughed beneath her breath. "It serves her right." she muttered.
She looked at Alix and appreciated her even more. This granddaughter in-law was really good. She was just like Yura.
Grandma Zhang made an introduction between Alix and the mayor. She wanted to say more but someone pulled her away and she left them sitting at a table with two other people who were engrossed in a conversation.
The mayor, Qui Beihong maintained a stern face after grandma Zhang left. Alix assumed that those was because she was Caishen’s wife and he had meddled in Caishen’s business, or maybe it was because they were strangers who barely had anything in common.
He emptied the last few drops of wine in his glass and moved his feet, looking ready to leave.
"Mayor Qui," she called slowly.
He turned to her and remained in his seat. "Yes miss Lin."
She looked around and inclined towards him so that she could speak without being heard by any other unnecessary party. "I can have a heart ready for your grandson ready by tomorrow if you are willing to work with me and stop meddling in my husband’s affairs."
His eyes went wide in surprise and he drew himself back, away from her. He was astounded that she was aware of this information. His grandson was only twelve years old and he was ill. He had already received one heart transplant but his body was rejecting it and the doctors had said a year ago that he needed another new heart. This was a secret though, information that only a few people in the world were aware of.
Alix slipped him a card with just one phone number and no name. "Think about it and call me when you make up your mind. Its not just any heart but the perfect heart which will fit him like a glove."
She leaned away from him because Chairman Tai and Mo Qilu were approaching. More than that, she had made her offer and the ball was in his court.
Chairman Tai sat down in an empty chair to her right and Mo Qilu to her left.
She could see the worry in chairman Tai’s eyes. He was worried because he was the one who shared the information about the mayor’s involvement in Caishen’s problems.
"Xixi, dear, we have been looking for you. I see that you have met mayor Qui already." He smiled at the mayor and said, "Mayor, this is my daughter Tai Alix, our youngest child."
Mayor Qui hid the questions in his eyes because that was not the name she had been introduced by.
"She is a genius pianist...no, she is a genius at playing all instruments and painting. When you are hosting a special event, please consider her if you need someone to entertain the guests." Chairman Tai added.
Mayor Qui smiled tentatively and nodded. He slipped the card which Alix had given him into his pocket and bade them farewell.
As soon as he was out of hearing distance, Chairman Tai asked her, "Did he give you a hard time?"
She shook her head and smiled. "No, we were just exchanging greetings." She assured them.
They were quite protective of her and she wondered what they would have done if she said he had given her a hard time.
"Did you drink a lot?" He asked her.
Auntie Mo meanwhile turned Alix’s head to her side and asked, "Are your feet okay?"
"Like I said, too much love." Her system mumbled.
