"In a significant breakthrough for the Helios Police Bureau, the Duplicators, two accomplices, Ignitor and Poison had been apprehended, and would provide crucial information to this incident..."
"I should have just killed them all." Ravi muttered to himself as he busied himself in the kitchen. He touched his bangs to move them to the side, a habit that he had gotten used to, when his hands met soft skin, he forgot that he had cut them off today.
Ravi sliced through the side of the fish in one go, he removed the innards and cleaned it before patting it to dry.
His phone rang and rang again. It must be Lisa calling to tell him the good news and ask how he was. He had asked the Sergeant for a sick leave when he learned that Sarah had also taken one.
"I understand that yesterday was a bit much for everyone so I asked the Chief and he gave everyone a day off. Just relax. I am in the office, I will take care of any case that comes together. Rest today, tomorrow we continue." frёeωebɳovel.com
Ravi wanted to ask about the chief but he should be in Helios. He would probably be happy, his eyes brightening up when he saw Alex Malley.
Not that he did it for him.
Ravi began to make the sauce for the fish. The ingredients were simple: ginger, garlic, soy, white scallions, basil, and a little mustard leaf. He blended everything in the food processor and began to apply it to the fish gently. His stomach rumbled. He had a feeling that this food would be very delicious.
With a bit of white wine, Ravi wrapped the fish in plantain leaf and put it in the oven. Switching on the rice cooker, he put two cups of rice in and water, before leaving the rice cooker to do the rest of the job.
What dessert should he make? He entered the store, and the crate of eggs was just four remaining. Right, they would soon get the money for the overtime pay.
Ravi smiled as he took a basket, placed the eggs in before choosing two lemons and returned to the kitchen
Changing the channel from the news to music, he rubbed his hands together and started. Baking was one of his favorite parts of cooking, just follow the rules and you would be alright.
He cracked the eggs, separating the yolks from the whites with practiced eggs. And then he began to beat the eggs.
This was the greatest arm exercise in the world, you can only spin in one direction, if you decide to whisk in the opposite direction then the bubbles that you have worked hard to make would simply disappear. It took him around four minutes for the egg whites to turn into glossy peaks that held their shapes even when lifted.
Good things take time.
He cut the lemon into half and then squeezed them into a cup. Pulling the separate bowl where the egg yolks were, he added sugar and a splash of lemon juice, taking a deep breath as the kitchen was soon filled with that citrus flavor. The aroma of the fish had also started to leak from the oven making the kitchen smell so delicious.
Ravi’s stomach grumbled.
"Good things take time." He whispered but he reached out to take a piece of the roasted cashew nuts on the counter.
In the next step, Ravi folded the lemon-infused yolk mixture into the fluffy egg whites, and the batter began to take a pale yellow hue, making his smile increase. He poured the batter into the ramekins.
Holding the tray of the six ramekins, Ravi was at a loss for a minute. The fish was roasting in the oven. So he opened it? But what if the fish does not taste as delicious as it is meant to be, besides the two of them cook at a different temperature from each other? Could he use the microwave? Would they rise as they should in the oven?
His phone rang and he sighed. Placing the pan back on the counter, Ravi moved to the left of the kitchen where his phone was charging. Removing the charger, it was an unknown number.
He picked it up and waited.
"Hello! Is this Mr West? I am calling from the veterinary office concerning the kitten that you claimed you found on the road. Can you come to the office, please?"
"No. Call animal services."
"There is no such thing in Davenport, Sir." The woman’s voice was still friendly but Ravi could detect the sharp bite on the voice. She was not joking.
"Send your account number and the bill." Ravi finally forced out. He had been the one to cause the accident after all. And the kitten was still a child. Yes, he belonged to a villain organization but he was still a child. He could start at the vet till he recovered, then he could go anywhere he wanted.
"It is not about the bill. Come to the vet."
"I am busy." He was about to switch off the phone when the smile in the woman’s voice completely disappeared.
"The kitten has been abused severely. The vet has CCTV so your face has been captured completely. If you do not come to the office, I would be forced to call the Police and report a case of animal abuse."
Ravi swallowed. The child had been abused, He rubbed his forehead. If the police are called, then one of them might be able to tell that the kitten is not an animal, they would link him to the shapeshifter, wouldn’t that link it to him as the murderer of Duplicator?
He sighed loudly. So much for a good relaxation day after his hectic yesterday.
"Fine. I am coming."
