Chapter 42: Going to the Vet

Chapter 42: Going to the Vet

The souffle would have to wait, Ravi thought as he took out the grilled fish and waited for a few minutes for the rice to be ready. He switched off the rice cooker and headed upstairs to change into a casual outfit.

He was almost always in a police uniform so he did not wear casual clothes often. He tried the first shirt, but it was a little too tight, compared to how bony he was when he came to Earth, he had started to return to how he was when he first became a Sentinel.

Ravi sighed loudly, no matter how he ate and worked out, he would probably not have that kind of physique that the Captain had. It must be nice to be Heaven’s favored child.

The police uniform already fit Arlen Sinclair like a glove, Ravi was sure that there were at least four abs hidden beneath the clothes. Beautiful, sculpted muscle.

The cloth dropped from his hand to the floor, what was he thinking about? Ravi slapped his cheeks, why was it getting hot again?

It has been 105 years since he had some. The moment Alya became the Black Impermanence, her cultivation path changed to one of abstinence and she broke up with him. Ravi was a little upset but his emotions did not fluctuate much, they had already been having disagreements for years over his refusal to change from the Sentinel Department to the Netherworld Emissary.

"The Emissaries are always too late. Alya, I want to save people. Besides, I like the idea of snatching people from death and letting them live the rest of their lives with their loved ones."

"Arrogance and Naivety would doom you, Ravi. Mark my words."

She had been right. Ravi trembled. Now was not the time to think about Luxor.

Should he go out for a date? No, he did not know anyone he was remotely interested in. Go to the club for a one-night stand, do they even have clubs in Davenport, he had not heard about any club.

Why was he thinking about sex right now? The truth was he just wanted to avoid the place that he was going.

Picking up the t-shirt, he helped himself to some jeans and some black slippers.

In five minutes, he appeared at the end of the alleyway, putting his hand in his pocket. Ravi crossed the road to the other side where the veterinary clinic was.

Yesterday night, he had not looked around for the vet clinic because it was always so noticeable. The vet clinic was a small one-story building that was painted in the brightest yellow possible with bright blue flowers littered around it. He did not really care for this building but ever since the new Captain, he had paid a little more attention to this place.

He passed the small bench in front of the clinic and opened the door. He looked down, the floor was covered with a soft brown rug, he looked around, the walls were covered with pictures of various cats, dogs, and the occasional hamster and snake.

"Hello! Are you looking to adopt a pet?" A young voice said, the youth was tall with red hair, he looked eighteen and was wearing a basketball uniform. A student.

"No, I am looking for a doctor. She called me over."

The moment the words left his mouth, the smile on the youth’s face disappeared, "You are the one then. Sister, he is here."

Ravi did not bother to correct the misunderstanding and just waited. A minute later, a young woman in her early twenties, vertically challenged, rushed out of the clinic.

She had red hair that was even brighter than the youth and a pair of striking green eyes that looked shocked the moment she saw him.

"You..."

Does he really look different, he had cut his bangs and shaved his beard, leaving behind a smooth face. His eyes grew colder, he did not want to hear any comment on his delicate features.

"Sister. Don’t give in.’’ The youth seemed to understand what was wrong with his sister.

"Yes. Yes. I know. Beauty would not prevent me from doing what is right. Mr West, follow me inside."

Ravi sighed but he still followed into the working room. There was a table in the middle of the room with soft padding. In the middle of the table was a very familiar kitten. The moment it saw Ravi, a frightened expression appeared on its face as it let out a very low meow.

Why are you causing more misunderstanding, like he imagined, those green eyes were now as sharp as blades.

"I really found him. This is my card. I am a police officer of the Davenport Police Bureau. I will pay for his treatment but that is only because I am the one that bumped into him." His words were cold and indifferent.

The woman looked into his eyes, "So you do not have any evidence that you found him."

"My colleagues already know that I do not have any pets. You can call to ask." He passed the card of Lisa and the Sergeant. The woman collected it and moved aside, after some minutes, she returned.

"It seems like I misunderstood you."

"If that would be all, I would be going." Ravi said as he turned to go.

"Mr West, I told you that the kitten was abused. You do not want to ask any questions."

"No, I do not want to." Ravi rubbed his forehead. It was morning and he was already feeling tired. "But you are going to tell me, wouldn’t you?"

The woman smiled, "He is a fighter. We found evidence of physical abuse, bruises, and various manhandling. The kitten is also severely malnourished. He seemed to have been starving."

Rabi clenched his fist. Children were Sentinel’s dragon scales, whenever the villains hurt children, they make sure to make the death a lot more painful.

But he was not a Sentinel anymore and he would not attempt to accept a job that he could not do.

"It is very unfortunate. Do you need me to make a donation, I am sure that your clinic is equipped to handle abused animals."

The woman sighed and shook her head, "There are only two clinics in Davenport, we are so booked and a pet like this needs extra care and love. Mr West, no Officer West, don’t you think that the kitten finding you was fate."
