Chapter 22 - I Have a Wedding to Plan
In Grandpa’s study, the old man and his eldest grandson sat facing each other as the old man poured both of them hard liquor. The wheelchair was on the side of the chair Alex sat on. He picked up his glass and sipped as the old man spoke.
"Please spare your brother. He’s still young." He knew without a doubt that Alex would strike, never caring if the enemy was within or external.
Logan seemed like trouble, and Alex did not intend to take it kindly with him. Glaring at his grandfather, he gently dropped the glass on the table.
"A teenager is a person we can term as young, not a full-grown man who wants to be the CEO of the Kings empire."
In other words, Logan knew exactly what he was doing and had to pay the price, but the old man was disheartened.
This was the same way he used to be in his youth, so it was as if he was talking to his younger self.
He did a lot of bad things, and though justifiable, he could not agree for Alex to follow the same path.
"Killing does not solve problems or bring peace," he advised, but Alex did not agree with him. There was some form of peace he only attained after removing certain people from his path.
"It does, like I remember someone saying, dead men don’t talk. Logan talks too much because he’s still alive."
In other words, the only way to silence his kid brother would be through death, which was a very easy task, but the old man could not allow it.
He was the only one capable of putting Alex in check, but if left on his own, Alex would remain a terror.
"Alex, I forbid you. Learn from me. You will have peace if you begin to overlook things. Adelaide is a good woman. Start a family with her, leave your brother and the mafia alone."
After what they did to his family, Alex did not intend to leave the mafia alone. They had to pay every day of their lives. "You know that isn’t possible," he directly refused, scaring the old man a little.
"Does she know you are Salvadore?" He asked, hoping that Joanna’s presence in Alex’s life would be enough to bring some form of light and satisfaction into it.
"No," he quietly responded. The old man let out a sad sigh.
"I don’t know what happened to her, but I realized she couldn’t remember a lot of things. Monica had another daughter who was taken by your men."
Alex froze momentarily, asking directly. "What’s her name?"
It was a sad moment for Grandpa Aristotle. Shaking his head, he could not give an expected response.
"I don’t know, but you are complicating your life more than you want it to be, and if you continue like this, Adelaide would be exposed to your enemies."
Alex refuted that fact. For as long as she remained his wife, no one would dare to harm her unless they wanted to be used as lab rats.
"I can take care of her and will find out what happened to her, but this is the last time I’m letting Logan off the hook."
A sigh of relief escaped the old man, a smile stretching his lips. "I will talk to him also. Please don’t do anything stupid."
Alex never did anything stupid. All he wanted was for the right thing to be done, but anyone who tried to make things difficult for him must surely pay with their lives or any other means.
"I should leave now. I have a wedding to plan." That was very important to him, and by planning, he meant meeting the extended family members.
"Then I won’t stop you," the old man nodded. It was time for the identity of Alexander King to be revealed to the world, and even in his condition, the old man had great faith in him.
When Alex wheeled himself out, he was surprised to see Joanna nervous, a frown creased his facial features. "What’s the problem?"
"My mother’s caretaker just informed me that someone came to see mom, and from the description, it’s Cole."
He was the only blonde middle-aged man to leave the meeting in a brown suit. After cutting ties with her mother, what could he want from her?
"Mom has been discharged, and her caretaker said they were just waiting for me to come when Cole barged in, forcing her to leave the ward and locking the door after. Alex, do you mind dropping me at the hospital? I have to take her home."
He was a little upset that she was locking him out of her family matter but did not voice it. "I’m coming with you."
That was not the response she expected, believing she could handle her idiotic father herself and knowing Alex’s identity now, she could understand why he was never at home at night.
Alex was a very busy man and should not involve himself in trivial matters like this. "I wanted to spend the night at her house."
He was already wheeling himself out, not agreeing with her suggestion. "We should rather get another caretaker so they can rotate. You have to prepare for your shares."
Thus, she had to prepare for her return to the Bakers’ Corporation, he reminded her, adding, "I can take care of Cole for you." freёweɓnovel.com
It was such a kind gesture coming from him, but after what she witnessed with Alex and Logan, she feared that Alex might be out of control.
Rising to her feet and following him out, she responded with the same heat of nervousness.
"Yeah, I will return to work on Monday, but just tonight, can I spend it with her?"
Ike came to open the car door, and she sat before he helped Alex into the car, amazed that they were still together.
Joanna must be a tough one to still be with Alex after finding out a few things about him. "I will be away for a week, so you can, but I will assign a bodyguard to you," Alex responded when Ike stepped on the accelerator.
"A what?" Joanna asked, not comfortable with the bodyguard part of his statement, but Alex had a limit for questions.
They were never welcome, but in certain circumstances, he had to endure them. "You know who I am now. It’s either that or I can go with you everywhere."
Joanna shook her head. To have the cold man in the wheelchair with her all the time, that did not sound interesting.
"I choose the bodyguard option."
Arriving at the hospital, Joanna was amazed to hear her mother’s raised voice for the first time in her life, but things did not seem to be going well, and the door was locked.
"Open it," Alex ordered the nurses. They stood there nervously. "Sir, we’ve tried. Security is on the way."
Alex could not wait for that, and what he did next sent a whirlwind of emotions flying about...
