Chapter 33 – Run

Chapter 33: Chapter 33 – Run

Alex’s gaze lingered for a long while, giving Aiden hope. "Alas, did you find her?"

Alex had been here ever since his contacts informed him that the girl he was looking for had been trafficked.

Most nights, he would be in these illegal clubs to check through the girls they had, hoping to find the girl that fit the description, yet there was no hope.

Alex did not respond immediately; Aiden noticed his gaze fixed on one particular girl.

It seemed like forever until the host was about to begin the auction before he spoke. "Buy number one and let’s ask her a few questions."

"Are you sure about this?" Aiden asked his gaze on the girl who looked more like trouble.

Not every girl sold in these kinds of auctions was innocent, and they both knew it.

"No, but it’s worth trying. And get me some vodka. Everything here is so nauseating," Alex frowned, his voice filled with annoyance.

He never liked such clubs but had to endure it just to find that woman.

"On it," Aiden said, knowing which part of the request was his.

Ike went to the car to bring them vodka since they couldn’t trust the drinks sold in these kinds of places.

The sight of half-naked women and all manner of the seven deadly sins going on was already an eyesore; their eyes had to be half-closed most of the time.

These clubs were dark, dealing in all manner of illegalities. It was just a matter of time before Alex dealt with them, but for now, he had too much on his plate, including his stubborn wife, whose purchases were still causing his phone to buzz with alerts.

Why wouldn’t she just buy everything at once but keep buying in bits? Alex knew she was up to something. Joanna was not as meek as he expected.

As they said, love is blind, and marriage is an eye-opener. There was no love, but their contract marriage still confirmed the saying.

Aiden spoke up when the card lifted in the air for the number one girl. That was how they were addressed, by numbers. "Five thousand."

The host recognized him instantly. Whenever Aiden began with a low bid, all the other customers would follow the same pattern.

Tonight, he was hoping things would be different, but his worst nightmare had just arrived, and he wasn’t going to let him win.

Not when there was a lot of money at stake. "It’s you again and that cripple friend of yours."

Aiden would have been calm if the insult was only directed at him, but for it to be directed at Alex meant war, and his expression went cold.

"I responded to your bid. No need to insult us."

The host laughed, his mocking glare on the man in the wheelchair. "What can you do? You are starting from five thousand with such a hot girl."

The girl was indeed hot but also shivering from fear. It was clear that all of them were not doing this willingly but were being forced.

In times like this, strange things began to happen. "Try and see if anyone would buy her at a higher price," Aiden daringly retorted. The host was greatly upset, accusing him.

"You always ruin our market, you motherfucker. Get yourself and your cripple out of this place."

Alex was busy typing on the phone, his expression neutral as Aiden responded. "And if I don’t?"

"Boys, teach our rude guests a lesson," the host declared, and four hunks in sleeveless shirts aimed at Aiden but were overpowered by Ike alone.

The expression on their faces was interesting, with the four men lying unconscious on the floor. "Are those your strongest men? They look weak to me," Aiden taunted, but Alex was still typing effortlessly away on his phone.

Four men pulled out guns, which fell from their hands when the heat from bullets penetrated through their hands, punching a bullet hole in them. The floor was getting messy with the dripping blood.

Other guests, including the girls, were horrified, though these kinds of things were not strange in places like this. It was just unexpected from two men and a cripple.

The host was now afraid, calling for backup. By the time his backup arrived, men in black, round-neck shirts surrounded the place. Those who knew, knew.

"What are Salvadore’s men doing here?" The host paled at the sight of the men who had intruded on the event.

"Look, we don’t have any business with you," he said pleadingly to the leader of the team, who was not ready to listen.

"We were informed from a reliable source."

The host could not imagine which reliable source they were talking about, staring in Aiden’s direction. "It’s just those two bastards causing trouble. You should get them."

"The alert was directed at you," the leader of Salvadore’s men spoke calmly. Those who had seen them in action before began sneaking out of the club.

No doubt this was going to be on the news and this club would be closed down when information reached the FBI.

"Run," he yelled, but none of them could escape from Salvadore’s men. Bullets were flying in the direction of the organizers but were so skillfully done in a way that no innocent person was injured.

Only the sound scared the girls; they closed their ears with their palms as one of Salvadore’s men asked, "What do we do with the girls?"

"Let me ask the boss," their leader said.

He texted on his phone for a while before saying, "Take them to safety." They turned around and left with the five girls without a word, whether good or bad to Alex.

Even they had no idea whom they were receiving their orders from.

"Are you coming to my place tonight?" Aiden was ready to leave and asked, Alex shook his head.

"No. I have work to do."

"You are happy I’m back, aren’t you?" Aiden punched his shoulder playfully, and Alex smiled.

"I am, and you are my best man, but I need information on someone."

Aiden was glad to be the best man and not Edmund. Having been away for so long, he was glad Alex still valued him as a best friend. "Who?" He asked, ready to organize the search.

"Enzo," Alex revealed, and Aiden frowned imperceptibly.

"Him?" He asked, remembering that was a closed case, but Alex asked him.

"What do you know?"

Aiden curiously glanced at the screen of Alex’s phone since he had never seen him so obsessed with it. "You are receiving so many bank alerts." If nothing at all, Aiden saw at least twenty bank alerts. At this time, none of the company branches would be making payments.

"It’s my wife. She’s trying to get me upset," Alex said calmly, and Aiden was slightly confused.

"By spending all that money? Aren’t you going to stop her?"

Alex smiled, knowing that was exactly what Joanna wanted. "Why should I?"

He began typing on the phone, to Aiden’s shock, as a message followed that rendered him spellbound.
