Chapter 55: AUCTION 2
Harlow walked into the hall with Andrew Phillipsburg by her side. She doesn’t intend on being a bidder tonight, but she had other things in mind.
Harlow’s effortless grace and raw, unfiltered allure made heads turn, whispers rippling through the crowd as she moved forward. She didn’t care what the people had to say about her, to Halkhalls, she was a despicable daughter of the Blackwood family.
Cutting off her marriage before 24 hours was considered an abomination in the society.
"How shameless to show her face amongst us." She heard murmurs from the women around.
"Look at her, already hanging around with another man."
"A whore just like her mother." She tried to ignore their judgment. It would have been better if Alanis wasn’t directly behind her, but he was. His presence only fueled the judgment passed on her. She wasn’t in a courtroom, yet it felt like everyone in there was present to judge her.
Andrew found a seat, he had also heard the conversations of the women around. "Let’s stay here," Andrew said but she quickly declined. She wasn’t a bidder, these seats are meant for bidders, she’s a presenter for tonight.
"I have my collections to showcase, I’ll see you later." At her words, she scurried away.
"I heard she got kicked out of her father’s mansion not too long ago." The women continued.
"Oh, even Frank Blackwood is ashamed of his daughter."
"After running shamelessly after the young man for years, she still left him..." Their whispers continued.
"I heard she was dumped by the family. I guess Frank’s golden daughter wasn’t as pure as they said." They giggled amongst themselves.
Claudia hearing the world criticize her sister smiled. This is all she’s ever wanted. The good and humble Harlow is not being reduced to nothing but filth by society.
"Harlow. Dear sister, I’m so glad to see you." Claudia said staring at her sister. Even though she was happy just now, it didn’t reduce the worry she felt. The designs she had stolen from Harlow had not been completed and her jewelry was not yet ready to be auctioned. She couldn’t tell her father or anyone because she feared she would disappoint him.
"You’re not presenting any diamond today, so what brings you here?" Claudia asked.
"Oh, I brought my designs over." Harlow pointed at Elena who held a silver trolley in her hands. The content in the trolley was covered with thick black clothes to conceal the item in it. Claudia’s face lit up.
In her past life, the diamonds she had made were stolen by Claudia and she had bid it for a much higher price and decided to support Alanis with it. That day, Frank had been disappointed in his daughter Harlow, and that alone was the beginning of their fallout.
In this life, she will never repeat the same mistake. The fund’s embezzlement might have slipped from her hands, but she will never let this slide.
"Then let’s arrange every item in the backstage to be presented tonight," Claudia said and Harlow nodded. She signaled Elena, who also started moving her trolley. The same could be said about Richie, who hasn’t glanced at her since they arrived.
"Okay everyone, put a name tag on your designs and leave, we’ll call you when it’s your turn for your jewelry to be auctioned," Claudia announced and everyone started leaving one after another.
She waited till everyone was out, and once she was sure that the whole area was cleared out, she swapped trolleys. She would never embarrass herself on a special night like this one. She would win Alanis’s heart with these designs and make his business great again.
"The auction is about to begin now." The Auctioneer took the stage. "But first, I would like to especially thank the man behind this vision. Without him, there would be no diamond auction here tonight.
"He had started his great foundation through this auction and I want you all to know, that every penny from the wonderful items about to be presented will go to the foundation. To help the poor and raise the orphans." Everyone clapped at the announcer’s words, but Harlow rolled her eyes.
Her greedy father will never give a penny to the poor, not to think of the less privileged or orphans. Frank Blackwood even if her father is a very greedy man. There is no foundation, everything about the foundation is just a facade and wasted effort.
In three years the people will forget that a foundation hosted by Frank Blackwood ever existed. But he would make billions using this nonexistent foundation.
"So ladies and gentlemen, please help me welcome, the very founder of and sponsor of this auction, Frank Blackwood." Harlow watched her father walk down the stairs with her mother and step-sister.
Once upon a time, she used to taunt and mock them, but today, she’s become who she said they were. A castaway. She had really been blacklisted by her father. By her family.
"Thank you very much for honoring my invitation," Frank said, his green eyes moving through the crowd till they settled on his daughter and then his laughter was replaced by a small frown.
"I want to promise you all that all of the diamond jewels presented to you tonight are gotten from the rarest of diamonds. They’re unlike anything you’ve seen before." The crowd was suddenly gingered as men couldn’t wait to spend their money and women couldn’t wait to flaunt their never before seen jewel.
They all couldn’t wait to see his their Blackwood’s new collection of diamonds would beat their previous ones. The Blackwoods are known as one of the biggest diamond companies globally. Their diamonds couldn’t be matched.
Every year, they come up with brilliant ideas that other cheap companies emulate. These ideas were all ideas of one person. The very person that has been cast out of the family, and ripped of all her headwork.
The very person who is being treated like trash.
Harlow is here for one thing... Revenge on her family...
