Chapter 70: SCRIPT (BACK IN TOWN)

Chapter 70: SCRIPT (BACK IN TOWN)

"Where will you be going today?" Ava asked as she carefully packed Harlow’s manuscript and other essentials into her bag.

"To Shoot Pictures. I’ll be submitting my script there, and hopefully, they’ll call back soon," Harlow replied calmly. She had taken every precaution to secure the copyright of her work, she knew all too well how major corporations could steal ideas from independent scriptwriters. frёewebnoѵēl.com

Ava paused and gave her a concerned look. "Make sure you’re careful. Don’t forget, your father is still looking for you."

Harlow nodded. The memory of her last encounter with her father was enough to send a shiver down her spine. If he ever found her, she was certain he wouldn’t hesitate to harm her.

"Yes, Mother," Harlow said with mock drama, trying to lighten the mood. Ava smiled knowingly. Her overprotectiveness was born from love, and Harlow appreciated it more than words could express. Ava was the only person who had truly cared for her, through thick and thin.

"I’ll be careful, Aunt Ava. You don’t have to worry," Harlow assured her. She reached for the door handle, but the moment she opened it, she froze in surprise.

"Hello, daughter-in-law," came a familiar voice.

Standing at the doorstep was none other than Grandma Hamilton, her sharp eyes twinkling with mischief. Harlow’s jaw dropped. How had the old woman found her?

Charlotte Hamilton smiled, clearly pleased with the shock on Harlow’s face. Her plan to surprise her grandson’s wife had worked perfectly.

What Harlow didn’t know was how determined Charlotte had been to track her down.

What Harlow didn’t know was that the old woman had her ways. Charlotte remembers going to visit her grandson at the hotel where he was hiding. Alanis could hide from anyone in this world, but not her. She would always find him no matter where he ran.

She threatened to expose his hideout to his mother if he didn’t tell her where Harlow was and he did. He told her everything about Harlow’s location and here she is now. The universe has given her another chance of having her grandson again and this time she would make sure she doesn’t lose it.

"How could you run away like that, child?" Grandma Hamilton chided. Looking at Harlow now, she was reminded of the first time they’d met in her previous life, so young, so full of life and hope.

Harlow knew how to love, it is unfortunate she had loved the wrong person. At twenty-eight she was already looking so old because of tears and so much sorrow.

Though she wishes her daughter-in-law a happy life, her selfishness wouldn’t allow her to let the girl go. She loved Harlow as if she were her own and would do anything to keep her safe.

"Grandma... what are you doing here?" Harlow asked, still stunned. Around the old woman’s neck was the unfinished necklace Claudia had made, the one Alanis bidder. Now she thought about it, he has done more in this life than her previous.

Harlow suddenly frowned at her thought. Alanis is not a good person, he has caused the death of her son and other children she will never forgive him for that.

"You promised to take me to my next appointment, remember? And it’s today," Charlotte said smoothly. Then, eyeing Harlow up and down, she added with a frown, "But it seems you’ll be needing the appointment more than me. Do you not eat, child? Why do you look so skinny?"

Harlow couldn’t help but smile. Grandma Hamilton had always found her too thin, no matter the circumstances.

Charlotte’s gaze swept over the cozy little apartment. It spoke of simplicity, yet there was an undeniable charm to it. She noted the meticulous arrangement and wondered if Harlow still knew how to cook. In her past life, Harlow had been a celebrated chef even if none of the Hamiltons admitted it. But she had given it all up after her death.

Garth and her children always ate at Alanis’s Villa, pretending like they were one family when she knew Garth hated Alanis more than anything. She’s never liked the boy since a child until Harlow’s proposal.

This time around, Harlow was determined to live differently. She had vowed to be selfish, to live for herself, and to pursue the dreams she had sacrificed for love.

"Won’t you invite me in?" Charlotte asked, breaking the silence.

"Forgive my manners, Grandma. Please, come in." Harlow stepped aside to help the old woman inside.

Charlotte settled into a chair, her eyes scanning the apartment once more and they fell on Ava who bowed slightly in greeting. Even if they were no longer at the Blackwood’s mansion, Ava couldn’t forget her place and would show respect to any member of the high society.

Charlotte ate breakfast with Harlow before leaving the house with her granddaughter. They used her car so that the ride to the city would be much easier but it would be the last time.

The ride through the city was smooth till they arrived before ’Shoot Pictures’ entertainment. It would be the biggest entertainment company in the country. Every year they host the biggest awards and events. They make the biggest movie stars.

It is the same company Claudia is signed to, but she isn’t serious about her career. She has only been featured in a movie which did nothing for her career since she was only making an appearance.

Harlow stepped out of the car with Grandma Hamilton, "Shoot Pictures?" She murmured wondering where she’d heard the name before. The old woman tried to search her memory, but nothing was coming.

"Grandma, you can wait here, I’ll submit this and then we can both go for your check-up." Charlotte held her daughter-in-law’s arms before she could move.

"Let me come with you dear, who knows, I might bring you good luck." She said.

Harlow had no other option, besides, there were no rules where they said old people couldn’t be allowed into the organization.

As they stepped in, she was greeted by none other than Claudia.
