Chapter 72: HOSPITAL

Chapter 72: HOSPITAL

"Do you want to be an actress?" Harlow smiled at Charlotte’s question. This woman, though overreacting at times, she was so loving and caring.

"No grandma. I’m here to submit my screenplay. Today was the deadline, but Claudia and her guards had disrupted it." Harlow sighed.

Charlotte felt so bad, she knew she was the cause of it. Maybe if Harlow hadn’t been the first thing that left her mouth today. She has noticed that recently she has suddenly become so forgetful of things. Even to the smallest things.

Charlotte hoped it wasn’t the same sickness from her previous life, she couldn’t forget things again.

"I’m so sorry Harlow dear, it’s my fault."

"It’s not Grandma, don’t blame yourself for it. You’re not the one who asked Claudia to arrive today. I could apply to other companies and pick the highest pay of all." Harlow smiled.

"Now let’s go for that appointment." She added.

"I suddenly feel so dizzy Granddaughter in law let’s go back home," Charlotte said.

"That’s the more reason we should see a doctor today Grandma. We need to know the state of your health once and for all." Harlow said calmly.

"There’s nothing to be afraid of grandma, if not for anyone, do it for me." Charlotte couldn’t refuse her daughter-in-law’s plea. She was scared to wits, but anything with Harlow was worth it.

When they arrived at the hospital, Harlow and Grandma Hamilton walked into the hospital, the older woman was tensed about the result. She didn’t want to go through the same pain she went through in her past life.

After the doctor’s diagnosis, she felt her health deteriorate faster than the speed of light. In less than a year she has already forgotten who she was. Harlow had been the only person to bring her back.

Harlow had been the only one to save her then. Talking to her daughter-in-law every day and seeing her grandson was all she needed to recover gently. Though the illness never left, it didn’t get worse either.

"Come grandma, let her it done quickly," Harlow said. She was still a little sad that her plan for the day had been ruined by her sister. Claudia always has a way of destroying everything she has or owns.

Harlow helped Charlotte out of the car and both women entered the hospital. They waited at the reception till it was Charlotte’s turn to see the doctor.

"Mrs Charlotte." A nurse called and both women walked into the doctor’s office. After a series of tests and consultations, the results were finally out. The moment Charlotte has been waiting for since she arrived. She didn’t want the last to repeat, but she guessed she couldn’t avoid fate.

It truly works in strange ways. In the past, she had dementia earlier in life, but now she had it late.

"Mrs Hamilton, the results are out." The doctor said as his eyes scanned the paper in his hands.

"I have dementia I know." Grandma Hamilton said.

"Says who Mrs Hamilton? The reports here say otherwise." This interested Harlow. Does that mean Grandma Hamilton is free from dementia? In this life, she didn’t have dementia...

Harlow smiled excitedly. She had recalled in her past life how she and Alex always cared for her even if her health didn’t improve.

"What does it say?" Grandma Hamilton asked, her heart pounding hard in her chest like she committed a crime.

"You’re free of any serious illness," the doctor said with a reassuring smile. "Your forgetfulness is simply a natural part of aging. I recommend drinking more water, eating healthily, and incorporating fruits into your diet. And perhaps ease up on the sweets," he added lightly.

Charlotte blinked in disbelief. Relief swept over her like a warm wave.

"You hear that, granddaughter-in-law? I’m free. But I still need care because I’m getting old," she said, her eyes sparkling with humor.

Harlow smiled warmly. "Don’t worry, Grandma. I’ll take good care of you, I promise."

"Don’t forget to keep your promise."

The moment they left the doctor’s office, both women were greeted by a pair of black eyes standing before the door.

Alanis had only just heard from Gus that his mother had arrived in the hospital and he thought something had happened. In the past, Harlow remembered the only way she got to see him once in many months was through his grandmother. She would desperately call for emergency and Alanis would arrive only to see she was lying.

He accused her and called her names even if all she ever did was to gain his attention. She had become desperate and crazy because of him.

"Alanis, what are you doing here?" Grandma Hamilton asked shocked to see her grandson.

"Gus told me you were at the hospital," Alanis said, addressing his grandmother. "I thought something might’ve happened, so I came to check on you." His voice was calm, but his eyes were on the woman next to his grandmother. It was really good to see her again.

Alanis had been indecisive about his feelings but right now he knew he had fallen in love with this red-haired little woman. He always did in his previous life. Ever since that night, the night he had stolen her chastity, but he refused to admit it.

He had been denying his feelings for long till his death. Back then he was stupid. Maybe that’s why he was given a second chance. A second chance to make everything right again.

He might have been wrong all along. Harlow is the missing piece in his life.

"My concerned grandson. I’m very fine. Your wife brought me to the hospital for my checkup." She said sweetly.

Ex-wife, Grandma," Harlow corrected softly, refusing to meet Alanis’s eyes.

"Thank you," Alanis said, his tone soft and genuine as he looked at Harlow. "I should repay you for your kindness."

Before Harlow could respond, Charlotte clapped her hands together. "I have an idea!" she said mischievously. "Alanis, since you’ve been so neglectful of your wife and me, you should take us out tonight. A proper dinner. Somewhere fancy."

"Grandma..." Harlow began, but Charlotte raised a hand to silence her.

"No arguments, Harlow. You’re too thin. A nice meal will do you good. Alanis, you’ll take us to fine dining tonight," Charlotte declared.

Alanis looked between the two women, his lips twitching with the ghost of a smile. "If that’s what you want, Grandma," he said, his gaze lingering on Harlow once more.

With that, Charlotte looped her arm through Harlow’s and began leading her away. "Now, let’s get ready for tonight," she said cheerfully.

Harlow sighed inwardly.
